Chapter 4: Intertwined

Released:

The crescent moon hung high in the sky, half-hidden among the layered dark clouds. Like a shy beauty partially veiling her face.

Inside the room, the candlelight flickered gently. Lin Que was half-lying on the bed, his black-and-white eyes half-closed.

He was pondering over what Qin Wanyuan had just said.

“Why does Wanyuan want to leave the sect? And her strange behavior over the past half month… there must be a connection.”

“She clearly wanted to tell me something at the end, but for some reason, the words wouldn’t come out…”

“Is it regression? A prophetic dream? Or a system? Or perhaps… Wanyuan is a transmigrator too?”

As someone who had transmigrated himself, Lin Que naturally considered these common tropes.

“Judging from Wanyuan’s behavior during that month of seclusion, she seems desperate to grow stronger quickly. Could it be that a crisis is looming in the future, and that’s why she’s so eager to become stronger…?”

“If that’s the case, then I need to work harder too.”

Just as Lin Que said this, the flickering candle flame suddenly froze for a moment. When it resumed its movement, a girl appeared inside the room. She had small demonic horns on her head, black hair, and red eyes. Petite in stature.

Her outfit wasn’t the traditional attire common in this world but more like a gothic lolita style from Lin Que’s previous life. She was sitting on his shoulder with a mischievous smile on her exquisite face. Her legs covered in black stockings swung slightly.

She was tiny, like a little fairy from a fantasy tale and only palm-sized. But with that devilish smile and the horns on her head, calling her a “little demon” would be far more accurate.

“Hehe~ I think I just heard someone say they wanted to get stronger. Need me to assign a few more missions? Guaranteed to make you stronger~”

Faced with the little demon’s temptation, Lin Que simply picked her up from his shoulder and placed her on the pillow.

“If even one of your missions were halfway decent, I’d have accepted them.” He sighed, complaining helplessly.

This “little demon” was the so-called “cheat” he had obtained at the age of eighteen after transmigrating into this world. It was a system-like existence.

However, Lin Que rarely completed the tasks she assigned.

Because none of them were serious!

Things like peeking on senior sisters while they bathed, stealing his master’s shoes and socks, or threatening junior sisters who had just joined the sect…

In short, the vast majority of the tasks were all perverted in nature.

Fortunately, there was no punishment for not completing them. At most, the little demon would complain a bit, saying he wasn’t being true to his most primal desires.

As a result, Lin Que only completed a small handful of tasks, and the rewards weren’t particularly generous either.

“Can you really blame me~? I’m just generating tasks based on your truest inner thoughts~” the little demon said with a hint of grievance on her face.

“You think I’d believe that nonsense?” Lin Que sneered in disbelief.

There was no way he would be seduced by a demon.

“Hehe.” The little demon didn’t argue. She kicked her little legs playfully, then slowly narrowed her crimson eyes. “But you’re starting to feel the pressure now, aren’t you? I can sense it.”

“……”

Lin Que didn’t answer, nor did he deny it.

Before all this, he had taken a go-with-the-flow approach. These days, he was no longer the young man who used to spend all his time focused only on cultivation.

Right now, he had a gentle and perfect dao companion and a happy little home that belonged to just the two of them. As long as life could continue like this, it would be enough.

But…

Qin Wanyuan’s strange behavior over the past month had indeed stirred a sense of crisis within him.

Human fear stems from the unknown and Lin Que was no exception. It was the uncertainty of the crisis that made him uneasy.

The little demon seized on this weakness and coaxed him gently, “Now that you’ve found yourself a dao companion, I won’t make things difficult for you. And with an unknown crisis looming, I won’t just stand by and do nothing either. After all, we’re in a symbiotic relationship…. mutually beneficial, right~?”

“Starting tomorrow, I’ll assign you some simple tasks, okay?”

“As for tonight… I think you have something to take care of, so I won’t disturb you~”

Before Lin Que could respond, the little demon vanished into thin air.

“Something to take care of?” Lin Que frowned, not quite understanding what she meant.

The next moment, the previously closed door suddenly opened. A graceful, attractive woman stood at the entrance, gazing at Lin Que with eyes full of affection.

It was Qin Wanyuan.

She had just finished bathing. Her entire body was wrapped in nothing but a towel, damp and clinging tightly to her delicate figure, perfectly outlining the curves of her waist and hips.

Moonlight streamed in from outside, casting a soft glow over her smooth fair skin. Droplets of water that hadn’t yet dried slid down her body, making her look especially enticing.

Even after being together for two years, Lin Que still found himself captivated by her flawless beauty.

“Lin Lang…” Qin Wanyuan approached the bed with light, graceful steps. As she reached his side, she gently closed the door behind her. “It’s been a while… hasn’t it?”

Though her voice was soft and shy, the meaning behind her words was clear.

Lin Que understood. No further explanation was needed.

She leaned down, arms wrapping around his neck as she kissed him tenderly. Her movements were slightly hesitant, as if unaccustomed. After all, with her seclusion over the past month, even this intimacy felt unfamiliar.

“Mmh… Lin Lang…” Her voice trembled with a mix of anticipation and nervousness.

Lin Que responded with equal warmth, his hand instinctively resting on her slender waist. Just a light touch caused Qin Wanyuan to shiver faintly, as if her body was still overly sensitive.

Their lips parted briefly. Qin Wanyuan looked up at him, her cheeks flushed, eyes shimmering with emotion…. clearly, her heart had already surrendered to the moment.

“Let me activate a sound-blocking formation first,” Lin Que said.

Though the chamber was well-insulated, they had always taken the precaution of setting a sound barrier. Especially to avoid disturbing Qin Qian’er who resided nearby.

However—

At this moment, Qin Wanyuan who was completely overcome with emotion couldn’t bear to let Lin Que leave. She clung to him tightly, shaking her head. “Qian’er won’t hear anything…”

As she spoke, she leaned in once more to kiss him. Lin Que no longer hesitated. His hands slid down her smooth waist, drawing her closer into his embrace.

“Mm…” Qin Wanyuan trembled again, her eyes growing moist with emotion, her face flushed with warmth.

Yet she didn’t stop. Carried by the lingering feeling between them, she held on even more tightly.

This was a long-awaited reunion after years of separation… even death. How could she bring herself to let go so easily?

Before long, she was above him, her hands pressed against his chest as she gazed down at him from above.

Lin Que was caught off guard. Qin Wanyuan had always been more reserved in moments like this. She rarely took the lead as she did now.

“Lin Lang… I love you. Let’s never be apart again,” she said softly, her voice filled with deep affection.

“Mhmm.” Lin Que nodded sincerely, looking up at her delicate face.

Outside in the courtyard, gentle ripples spread across the surface of the well one after another. They lingered for a long time without fading, like echoes of everything that was happening inside the room.
