Chapter 7: That Senior Sister Is My Ex

Released:

Qin Wanyuan stared at the personality section again and again.

“Ice-cold”…. that she could understand. Although she had never met her senior sister, her aloofness was well-known throughout the sect.

But what was with the “Extremely possessive” and “Secretly a severe yandere”?

If she was really that possessive… would she end up stealing Lin Lang?

That was exactly what worried Qin Wanyuan the most.

And as for the word yandere, Qin Wanyuan didn’t understand what it meant, but from the system’s evasive attitude, it definitely felt like a hidden danger.

She continued reading.

[Favorability level toward Lin Que: 10 (Indifferent)]

Seeing this, Qin Wanyuan couldn’t help but let out a small sigh of relief only to fall into a new dilemma.

The good news was that this senior sister didn’t seem interested in Lin Que.

The bad news was that she now had to get Lin Que to win her over.

She really didn’t know whether to feel happy or worried.

After reading Jiang Moqing’s profile, a question popped into Qin Wanyuan’s mind.

“Why is her name listed as Jiang Moqing in the attribute panel? I remember her surname was Wang.”

[That is her real name. The details are tied to a special event the host must unlock on her own.]

“Alright then.”

Qin Wanyuan didn’t dwell on that for long. Instead, curiosity led her to open her own attribute panel.

[Name: Qin Wanyuan]

[Personality: Stubborn, devoted, obsessive, weak but loves to play]

[Favorability level toward Lin Que: 100 (Willing to live and die together)]

Seeing her favorability level, Qin Wanyuan nodded in satisfaction.

As expected, I am the one who loves Lin Lang the most.

“But what does ‘weak but loves to play’ even mean?” she frowned and demanded of the system.

[It naturally refers to how the host is clearly a complete amateur in that area, yet still loves to seek intimacy with Lin Que, only to end up a disheveled mess.]

“…Ptui, you’re full of it! I don’t believe a word you say!”

Qin Wanyuan’s cheeks flushed red. She hurriedly closed her own attribute panel and instead opened Lin Que’s.

[Name: Lin Que]

[Personality: Deeply affectionate, cheerful, sword is everything (in the past)]

[Favorability level toward Qin Wanyuan: 98 (Would give all for you)]

[Favorability level toward Qin Qian’er: 5 (Indifferent)]

[Favorability level toward An Xiaoyao: 65 (Respect)]

[Favorability level toward Jiang Moqing: 20 (Wary)]

Seeing Lin Que’s favorability level toward her, along with the note “Would give all for you”, Qin Wanyuan felt her eyes grow hot.

She gently touched those four words with her fingertip, and the image of Lin Que standing alone against demonic cultivators in her previous life flashed across her mind. Tears welled up as she smiled.

“Of course I know, you idiot.”

After the wave of emotion passed, she looked at Lin Que’s favorability toward the others and couldn’t help but feel a bit troubled. “Lin Lang’s favorability for Qian’er is so low… But I guess that’s to be expected. After all, that girl Qian’er… haah.”

Qin Wanyuan thought that even if she didn’t plan to make Qin Qian’er a capture target, she still needed to try and smooth things out between them.

Looking at Qin Qian’er’s locked profile panel, Qin Wanyuan blinked.

“I wonder what her Favorability level toward Lin Lang is. Probably even lower than his for her…”

[The host may select Qin Qian’er as a capture target to unlock more information.]

“I refuse. No matter what you say, there’s no way I’m dragging Qian’er into this,” Qin Wanyuan snorted coldly. But then she paused, thinking, “Can I select Qian’er as a target but just not complete the mission?”

[You can, but if the mission exceeds the time limit, it will be considered a failure and points will be deducted.]

“Then forget it.” Qin Wanyuan shook her head and pushed the idea aside.

She had to be a frugal woman now. She couldn’t afford to waste a single point, since every point meant Lin Que had to do something intimate with another woman.

“As long as I gather 30,000 points and make it through the calamity two years from now… then Lin Lang will only have me by his side.”

Qin Wanyuan had come to terms with it. Since it was unavoidable for Lin Que to interact with other women, there was no point in obsessing over it. It would only make things harder on herself.

As for those targets… once she got the 10,000-point reward from completing their capture paths, she could just cut them off from Lin Que. Or at worst, treat them as mere bed servants. There was no way she’d allow them to become official wives or concubines.

Otherwise, if the inner court turned chaotic…

Qin Wanyuan’s expression darkened as she recalled certain painful memories.

“I absolutely won’t let my and Lin Lang’s home turn into what the Qin family once was.”

That’s right. Her maternal home, the Qin family that had been wiped out, used to be just like that.

Her father had many wives and concubines but failed to manage the household. The resulting chaos among the women eventually led to endless inner strife.

According to her mother, she once had an older brother…but in the end, he died young.

Qin Wanyuan didn’t know the exact reason. Only that back then, her mother had covered her face and wept, eyes filled with grief and hatred.

That was also why Qin Wanyuan didn’t want Lin Que to have any other wives or concubines.

But the looming calamity two years from now was even more urgent. Faced with two evils, she had to choose the lesser one. “Inner-court” conflict was only a problem if Lin Que truly ended up with a harem….and if it came to that, she would find a way to nip it in the bud.

For now, the most important thing was surviving the demonic cultivator massacre that awaited them in two years.

As she was still deep in thought, Lin Que’s voice called from outside the room.

“Wanyuan, breakfast is ready.”

“Coming!”

Qin Wanyuan responded quickly, closed the system interface, got dressed, and limped her way out into the courtyard.

The table was filled with a dazzling spread of spiritual dishes, made from costly spirit beast meat and rare medicinal herbs.

Normally, Lin Que wouldn’t cook things like this.

Because they were seriously expensive.

But today was different. After what happened yesterday and how many times it happened, it was only right to prepare something nourishing to help her recover.

Qin Wanyuan understood that, and her face flushed slightly red.

“It’s all your favorites. Eat plenty,” Lin Que said gently, patting her on the head.

“Okay.” Qin Wanyuan nodded sweetly and began eating in small bites, but her pace was steady and quick.

“There’s another portion in the kitchen. Take it to Qin Qian’er later. She’s still building her foundation. Eating more spiritual food will help with her cultivation.”

While they were eating, Lin Que said this to Qin Qian’er.

“Okay.” Qin Wanyuan nodded. “Thank you, Lin Lang.”

“You’re welcome. After all, Qin Qian’er is my sister-in-law,” Lin Que replied calmly.

But having just seen Lin Que’s favorability rating toward Qin Qian’er, Qin Wanyuan understood clearly. Lin Que treated Qin Qian’er well entirely because of her.

At that thought, Qin Wanyuan looked up at Lin Que. His handsome face was bathed in sunlight, and she couldn’t help but smile.

“Lin Lang, I really like you so much.”

“I like you too,” Lin Que said gently.

“I know,” Qin Wanyuan looked into his eyes and said seriously, “That’s why I’ll like you even more.”

After the sweet exchange, Qin Wanyuan suddenly remembered the system’s assigned task to visit Jiang Moqing.

“Lin Lang, there’s something I want to talk to you about.”

“What is it?” Lin Que looked at her curiously.

“Isn’t there a senior disciple under my master? As a junior, I should pay her a visit. How about we find some time to go together?”

As she said this, Qin Wanyuan felt guilty and a little awkward.

After all, bringing her own husband to visit another woman who also happened to be a target for capture wasn’t exactly comfortable.

When he heard that, Lin Que visibly froze. Even his hand holding the chopsticks trembled slightly.

After a moment, Lin Que finally spoke to Qin Wanyuan. “Wanyuan, do you remember I once told you that before you, I had a former Dao companion?”

“Mhmm, I remember.” Qin Wanyuan blinked and nodded.

Lin Que had indeed mentioned having a former partner before, but he never went into detail. There had been a sense that those memories were too painful to revisit.

Qin Wanyuan hadn’t paid much attention to it either. She liked Lin Que, and since he no longer had any contact with his former Dao companion and that relationship didn’t seem to have been a happy one she had never dug deeper.

It felt like she would just be reopening old wounds.

But now, at this very moment, with Lin Que bringing it up again, a sense of foreboding rose in Qin Wanyuan’s heart.

She remembered the note next to Lin Que’s favorability rating for Senior Sister Jiang Moqing.

It said “Wary”.

In her previous life, after getting together with Qin Wanyuan, Lin Que had never once contacted that senior sister. The two had seemed like complete strangers.

So why was he wary?

There seemed to be only one answer.

“That senior sister… is my former Dao companion.”
