Lin Que was telling the truth.
He ate an entire bucket of rice during that meal, sweeping through the dishes on the table like a whirlwind.
Of course, he waited until Qin Wanyuan and her sister had finished eating before launching his “table-clearing” operation.
Fortunately, Qin Qian’er followed the Path of Enlightenment with a focus on spell techniques. With a few hand seals and a spell, she kept all the dishes warm throughout the meal.
“Lin Lang, eat slowly so you don’t choke. If it’s not enough, I’ll go make more in the kitchen.”
Qin Wanyuan cupped her face in her hands with happiness, admiring how heartily Lin Que was eating.
For someone who loves to cook, there’s probably nothing more joyful than seeing the person you love enjoy the meal so much.
“It’s more than enough.” Lin Que wiped his mouth and replied with a smile.
Seeing his exaggerated appetite, Qin Qian’er was so surprised her mouth fell slightly open, her eyes full of disbelief. After all, Lin Que usually didn’t eat this much, and she rarely saw anyone eat with such intensity.
After the meal, the dishwashing duties were handed over to Qin Qian’er.
She formed a hand seal, and the bowls and chopsticks floated into the wooden basin on their own. The water swirled powerfully yet gently, so as not to damage the ceramic dishes. With the help of soapberries and rice-washing water, everything was soon cleaned thoroughly.
In fact, the Enlightenment Path included techniques with instant-cleaning effects, but unfortunately, Qin Qian’er’s cultivation was only at the Foundation Establishment stage, so she hadn’t yet learned those.
“I really need to work harder in cultivation… Otherwise, I won’t even be able to keep up with my sister.”
Watching her sister’s departing figure, Qin Qian’er muttered to herself.
She actually wanted to follow the Path of Battke, since it focused on combat, allowed for faster growth, and most importantly….once mastered, didn’t require expensive magical tools; personal strength alone would suffice.
Having grown up wandering the streets with her sister, Qin Qian’er knew all too well: only when your fists are strong will the bad guys stay away.
But unfortunately, her talent and aptitude were far more suited to the Path of Enlightenment, and her body wasn’t compatible with the high-intensity demands of the Path of Battle.
With a long sigh, she returned to her room to meditate and cultivate.
Meanwhile, Lin Que and Qin Wanyuan enjoyed a relaxing couple’s bath together, then went to bed.
Qin Wanyuan leaned against Lin Que’s chest as he, bathed in the moonlight streaming through the window, pulled out the peach crisps and salted egg yolk pastries he’d bought that afternoon in Wanbao City.
He laid the peach crisps on the bedsheet with a cloth underneath, while the salted egg yolk pastries were placed on the bedside table.
“I bought these today. Give them a try and see what you think.”
“Eating in bed… won’t that be a bit messy? I’d hate to get crumbs all over the sheets…”
Qin Wanyuan still tried to object, but before she could finish, Lin Que had already picked up a piece of peach crisp with his long fingers and held it up to her cherry lips.
Though she had said it wasn’t ideal, she obediently opened her mouth and took a small bite. The sweet, buttery crispness made her eyes close with happiness.
As for the few crumbs that fell, Lin Que used his other hand to catch them so they wouldn’t land on the bedsheet.
“It’s so good~”
“As long as you like it.”
Seeing how happy she was, Lin Que smiled as well. “That bag of salted egg yolk pastries. Make sure to give some to Qin Qian’er later.”
“Mhm~” Qin Wanyuan nodded.
After a few more pieces of peach crisp, she finally stopped eating, laying back contentedly on Lin Que’s firm chest, listening to the steady beat of his strong heart.
Lin Que carefully cleaned up the remaining crumbs, wiped his hands with the cloth, and then wrapped his arms around her.
“Lin Lang, that duel today against the Blade Sect prodigy… was it dangerous?”
“Not particularly. All things considered, it was over with a single sword strike.”
For Lin Que, the fight was nothing more than a warm-up. Not worth much discussion.
The only noteworthy part was when he helped the elder sister and innkeeper Cui’er get some payback by slapping Liu Yongge across the face several times. But thinking Wanyuan might get jealous if he mentioned that, he decided to leave it out.
“You really are incredible, Lin Lang… If only I could be like you.”
Qin Wanyuan blinked. “Oh, right…. Lin Lang, could you teach me the sword? I want to be strong like you… at the very least, I don’t want to be a burden to you.”
“My swordsmanship?”
Lin Que paused for a moment, seemingly recalling something, but in the end, he shook his head.
“Wanyuan, I only have two true sword styles. One of them is the sword manual that Master passed down to you. The other… isn’t something you can learn.”
“You mean Master’s sword technique? But how do you know it…?”
Qin Wanyuan had already seen Lin Que’s memories and naturally knew he had once been a disciple under An Xiaoyao as well. But now, she deliberately pretended not to know.
After all, if she revealed that she had been using the Dream Share Talisman to peer into Lin Que’s dream memories, wouldn’t that blow her cover?
“I don’t think I ever told you before, but I too was once a disciple under Teacher An Xiaoyao. She treated me very well.”
Lin Que explained simply.
“I see… There really is still so much you haven’t told me, Lin Lang…”
For some reason, there was a faint tone of grievance in Qin Wanyuan’s voice.
If she hadn’t been reborn in this life and hadn’t received the system, she might have just muddled through another lifetime without ever truly understanding the man beside her.
“Lin Lang, no matter what happens, you always try to carry it all alone. But have you ever considered that I want to share your burdens too?”
“…I’m sorry.”
Lin Que lowered his head and hugged her more tightly. “We still have a long road ahead of us. From now on, I’ll tell you everything. One piece at a time.”
“Mm.”
Seeing the sincerity in his expression, Qin Wanyuan finally smiled.
Then suddenly, as if something came to mind, her small hand beneath the covers began to move mischievously.
“Lin Lang, it’s getting late now… shouldn’t we also…”
Qin Wanyuan couldn’t quite bring herself to finish her sentence, but her hands were much faster than her words, quickly loosening her sash.
“But didn’t we… already do it just last night? Maybe we should rest for a day?”
Lin Que, knowing how sensitive her physique was, naturally worried that two days in a row might be too much for her. He feared she’d be too sore to even get out of bed tomorrow.
“Hmph, I’ll have you know. I’m a Core Formation cultivator on the Path of Battle. After resting and cultivating earlier today, I’ve already recovered fully.”
As she spoke, a mischievous grin crept onto her face. “Or… could it be Lin Lang is the one who’s tired today, and this is just an excuse? Hmm? Or maybe… you didn’t eat enough at dinner? Should I go make some ginseng soup to help you recover?”
Her teasing words immediately made Lin Que choke with laughter.
A man could take many things. But being called “not up to the task” was not one of them.
Especially when Qin Wanyuan wore that slightly provocative look, her little smirk practically dared him. And that was all it took to ignite the fire rising from deep in his core.
“Ah~”
Startled by Lin Que’s sudden shift, Qin Wanyuan’s hand trembled slightly, but she quickly regained her composure.
She wouldn’t have provoked him like this tonight without having some confidence to back it up.
Not only had the system enhanced her constitution again today, but those two bottles of Patience Potion alone were enough to let the pre-upgrade her go toe-to-toe with Lin Que for a full round.
What’s more, today Lin Que had held hands with Jiang Moqing and also with that Ao Xinyu. Sf course she’d be jealous.
Although she knew it wasn’t Lin Que’s fault, Qin Wanyuan still wanted to give him a little “lesson”.
With a swish, she lifted the blanket and immediately shifted positions, leaning down with a seductive flair, her tongue lightly licking her lips.
Compared to the conservative version of herself a month ago, this was already quite a transformation.
But just before the real action began, Lin Que reached out and stopped her.
“What’s this? Could it be that Lin Lang is losing his nerve at the last moment?”
“No, I just wanted to say… could you put these on first?”
As he spoke, Lin Que had already taken out a pair of black ice-silkworm stockings from his storage ring.
