Chapter 162: Interlocking

Although only its head was visible, Chu Feng could already estimate from that alone that the beast’s body was at least ten meters long.

Its gaping maw opened wide, revealing cold gleaming fangs. The demonic beast let out a furious roar at Chu Feng, and along with the soundwave, a huge surge of water crashed toward him.

The sudden appearance of the beast shocked Chu Feng. He glanced toward the shore, only to find that the green-haired woman who had been there moments ago was nowhere to be seen.

From the aura it emitted, this was a demonic beast approaching the strength of the fourth rank. He should be able to handle it, but… fighting in the water was definitely not to his advantage.

In the next instant, the beast lunged at Chu Feng. Its huge body leapt out of the water, blocking out the sunlight, stretching over a dozen meters in length.

Its scales shimmered under the sunlight, and beneath its belly were four fins, each larger than Chu Feng’s head, exuding an overwhelming sense of pressure.

With a thought, Chu Feng opened his mouth and spat out a streak of sword qi.

Clang!

The sword qi struck the beast’s scales. Aside from producing a crisp, ringing sound, it did nothing else. Well… not exactly nothing. It did a great job of enraging the beast.

“Roar!”

Its lantern-sized eyes filled with fury as it locked onto Chu Feng and charged straight at him.

After seeing the beast’s full form, especially the fins on its belly, it was clear that this was a water-dwelling demonic creature. As everyone knew, even something as formidable as a shark would be completely helpless once it left the water.

After quickly assessing the situation, Chu Feng decided not to confront it head-on. He immediately circulated his true qi and, in one breath, leapt onto the shore.

Splash!

The demonic beast’s attack missed, and by that time, Chu Feng was already standing safely on land.

The beast surfaced with its huge head, its ferocious eyes fixed on Chu Feng.

As expected, his judgment had been correct. The beast didn’t dare come onto land.

Looking at the beast still staring at him, Chu Feng shouted, “What are you looking at?”

“Roar—”

The beast let out a low growl, its eyes locked tightly onto him as strands of saliva dripped down.

Clearly, it had already taken Chu Feng as its prey.

“Try staring again if you’ve got the guts. Come up on shore and fight me one-on-one!”

In the end, watching the beast sink back into the water, Chu Feng concluded that its intelligence wasn’t all that impressive.

He turned around and had only taken a few steps—

Boom!

The water’s surface suddenly exploded as a huge shadow leapt out.

Bang!

The shadow crashed onto the ground. It was the very same demonic beast.

And then, an even more shocking sight unfolded. After coming ashore, the beast’s four fins actually transformed into four legs.

In just a brief moment, it had evolved from a fish into an amphibious creature. At this rate, if Darwin saw it, he’d probably rewrite the theory of evolution overnight.

Its huge jaws opened wide, revealing rows of vicious fangs.

“Um… may I take back what I just said…?”

But the only response Chu Feng received was the beast’s furious roar.

“Roaaar!”

The deafening bellow sent saliva spraying everywhere.

A wave of foul stench hit him head-on, and Chu Feng took the full brunt of it.

He truly hadn’t expected that, as a grown man, he’d end up experiencing something like this.

In an instant, Little Bai appeared in his hand, but the demonic beast had already charged at him. The tremendous impact sent his body flying.

Seeing Chu Feng’s body fly perfectly into the trap, the beast that was previously raging now had the crimson glow fade from its eyes. Then, it pulled out a communication token and spoke in human language, “Protector Hu, my task is complete. Over!”

***

Boom!

Chu Feng’s body slammed heavily onto the ground.

“Cough, cough… this beast is incredibly strong. If my body hadn’t just advanced, I really wouldn’t have been able to take that hit.”

Chu Feng never would have imagined that this demonic beast was both aquatic and land-capable.

He reached out to the side, trying to grab Little Bai.

“Hmm?”

Empty!

Startled, Chu Feng immediately turned around, only to see a floating soul-like figure behind him.

In its hands were not only Little Bai, but also a golden sword.

Protector Hu looked at Chu Feng and recited the prepared lines, “Human boy, which do you want… the golden sword, or this white sword?”

“……”

Chu Feng’s lips twitched. What was this? Did the cultivation world have a river god too?

But the problem was there was no river here! Though, come to think of it, there had been a river in the direction he’d just flown from.

Chu Feng pointed at the white sword and said, “Just give me that one.”

Little Bai was the sword his master had given him; there was no way he could afford to lose it.

“What an honest human youth! In that case, I shall give you both swords!”

Protector Hu quickly handed both swords to Chu Feng and clocked out for the day!

After all, he had guarded Chu Feng the entire night, which meant he had neglected his beloved consorts.

“???”

Chu Feng stared blankly at the two swords in his arms. When he looked up again, the soul figure was nowhere to be seen, as if it had all been an illusion.

“My beloved consorts, your king has returned!”

Protector Hu shouted excitedly. Just as he was about to leave, the rabbit-eared girl appeared in his line of sight.

The rabbit-eared girl stormed over, fuming, and complained to Protector Hu, “Protector Hu, why didn’t you follow the script Her Majesty gave you?”

Protector Hu said unhappily, “It was so thick, full of useless nonsense. Besides, in the end, wasn’t the golden sword still handed over to the human? No matter what, I’ve completed the task Her Majesty assigned.”

The rabbit-eared girl was furious, yet she had no way to refute him. Judging from the result, Protector Hu had indeed completed the task.

“Hmph! I will report all of this truthfully to Her Majesty.”

The rabbit-eared girl and Protector Hu had never gotten along, not just for a day or two.

“Next, let’s hope that human from the Heaven Devouring Sect follows the plan.”

Chu Feng looked at the golden sword in his hand. It was about three feet long. The blade was entirely golden and engraved with the image of a five-clawed golden dragon, while the hilt was shaped like a soaring phoenix. It looked incredibly imposing. One glance was enough to tell that it was no ordinary weapon.

But for now, the top priority was to find the green-haired woman who had brought him here.

When the demonic beast appeared earlier, she had suddenly vanished!

When he returned to the original spot, the demonic beast was already gone.

After swimming back to where he had come from, he still couldn’t find any trace of the green-haired woman.

“What should I do now?”

Chu Feng’s communication token didn’t have a single demon clan contact yet. Could it be that he was about to start surviving in the wilderness all over again?

“Little rascal, I finally found you.”

A lazy yet familiar voice came from behind him.

The Demon Empress!?

Chu Feng was just about to turn around when a soft sensation pressed against his back, and his nose was filled with an intoxicating fragrance. He had been embraced by the Demon Empress once again.

How had she suddenly appeared here?

“Little rascal, you didn’t return to the palace last night, leaving me all alone. How bold of you.”

Su Tiantian opened her mouth and suddenly bit down on Chu Feng’s ear.

“Hiss!”

A sharp pain shot through Chu Feng’s ear, followed by a warm sensation. No need to guess, it was bleeding.

Su Tiantian licked the blood, and while Chu Feng wasn’t paying attention, she planted her mark inside his body.

After finishing, she lazily rested her chin on his shoulder. “Little rascal, I went through quite a bit of trouble to find you. If you don’t give me a reasonable explanation, I’ll just eat you on the spot!”
