Chapter 63: Mountain King Part 2

Released:

I extended my hand, my fingers closing tightly around the Aerial Eagle as it slowly closed in on me. And just like Jigoro, I crushed it with brute force.

Such was the might of my skill, [Dragon Force], which I had acquired through the assimilation of the Lesser Small Naga’s bones into my own body. It was a skill that gave me an outrageous power boost in last-minute situations. I had completely forgotten about it since that foolish battle against the “Moon Obsession” boss.

Normally, my grip wouldn’t possess such overwhelming strength, yet now, thanks to [Dragon Force], all my attributes had experienced a significant surge. This was a piece of cake, akin to encountering resistance no more substantial than a stick-shaped snack.

“Ki…!”

“Keke…!”

Oh? The birds were plummeting like insects sprayed with insecticide. Could it be that [Dragon Force] was amplifying not only the effects of [Abyssal Aura] but also its range? That’s quite remarkable.

“Kii!”

“Kikii!”

Nevertheless, two of the birds were not affected by the effects of [Abyssal Aura] and were charging straight at me. This tandem consisted of an Aerial Eagle and an Iron Woodpecker. They must have thought that since this kind of tactic worked against me before, they should try the same approach. But…

“Too slow.”

“”!?””

At this moment, the movements of the two birds seemed incredibly sluggish to me. I didn’t even feel the need to dodge them.

So, with ease, I positioned the scythe’s blade on the trajectory of their flight and swung it. The speed of my scythe swing had skyrocketed, and the Aerial Eagle and Iron Woodpecker couldn’t even evade; they were cleaved in two.

When I cut down the two, I hardly felt any kind of resistance. With all my stats heightened, it appeared that my attack had an almost overkill level of power against creatures of this caliber. For them, my scythe right now must have been nothing short of the Grim Reaper’s.

“Only the boss remains, huh?”

Meanwhile, while this was unfolding, Jigoro and Ruby seemed to have finished off the Aerial Eagles that were coordinating with the Twin Head Wind Eagle, and Iris and Genjuro had dispatched the remaining birds that didn’t succumb to my aura.

The sole survivor was the boss, the Twin Head Wind Eagle. Bringing it to this point was a result of everyone fulfilling their roles properly. In a normal situation, we should all unite to end this.

“However, my dissatisfaction with almost dying isn’t going away like this. Just for a little while, allow me to be selfish, everyone…”

Muttering so, I directed the tip of my staff toward the Twin Head Wind Eagle.

“Dark Lance.”

Since the speed of my magic power recovery was also heightened, my magic power had recovered enough for me to shoot a dark lance spell. Thus, fueled by a deep-seated hatred, I unleashed the Dark Lance attack.

“”Ki?!””

What I unleashed was an entirely ordinary Dark Lance, devoid of any magic circle or spell adjustments. However, what materialized was a massive, cone-shaped spear that must have been around 10 meters in length.

The size was unbelievably big. Despite being somewhat taken aback, I swiftly launched it. The enormous Dark Lance streaked forward, leaving behind a trail of darkness as it surged fiercely toward the enemy. It was truly a magnificent sight to behold!

“”Kikiiii!?””

The Twin Head Wind Eagle emitted a cry filled with astonishment upon realizing the imminent threat of the spear that would undeniably spell its death upon impact. In some way, its cry seemed tinged with a note of distress. After all, if I were in its shoes, I would undoubtedly have turned as pale as a sheet. Not that I have a face to turn pale, though.

Setting that aside, the Twin Head Wind Eagle exerted its full strength to ascend into the sky. It attempted to evade the incoming attack by flying on a complex trajectory. However, leveraging my [Advanced Magic Control], I aimed to follow its movements closely.

However, the Twin Head Wind Eagle possessed remarkable aerial maneuverability, and the fact that my Dark Lance was excessively massive, thus lacking agility, proved fatal. My Dark Lance dissipated without showcasing its power. It seemed that in a dogfight scenario, the advantage was on its side. Given that it was a bird, such an outcome was only natural.

“I see. In that case, it’s time for my final trump card.”

“”Kyeeaah!!””

Having successfully evaded the clear threat, the Twin Head Wind Eagle now turned its attention toward me. It was clear that it wanted to prevent me from making any further moves.

I could understand its sentiments. Imagine this: an enemy on the brink of death suddenly undergoes a power-up and then, in an instant, obliterates your comrades. Naturally, one would want to eliminate such a threat as swiftly as possible.

This situation blurred the lines of who the true boss was. Well, considering that I was aspiring to be an unofficial villain, perhaps this level of ambiguity was just right.

However, if they were to approach from over there, it would actually be quite convenient. Why is that? Because I didn’t know the exact range of my trump card either.

“Now then, shall we make you a test subject to see just how effective this is?… Dragon’s Breath, Gaaaahhh!!!”

I opened my mouth as wide as possible and unleashed Dragon’s Breath, a powerful move that could only be used once while the [Dragon Force] skill was active. From the mouth of my silver mask, thick black flames burst forth with tremendous force!

“Kee…”

The Twin Head Wind Eagle hurriedly maneuvered with its four wings to evade, but it ended up caught in the blast of my Dragon’s Breath. Engulfed by the pitch-black flames of the Dragon’s Breath that seemed capable of scorching even the heavens, it vanished without even having a chance to utter its final cry.

Ah, I can’t even loot any drop items!

――――――――――

My Dragon Breath had an astonishing power, reaching high into the sky and dispersing clouds as if it could pierce them. The range was unbelievably broad! This felt like a strategic weapon!

From the summit of the mountain, Firth City was visible, raising the possibility that someone might have seen my Dragon’s Breath from there. However, it was unlikely they would ever uncover the truth, as there was absolutely no information to lead them there.

After various speculations circulated, the peak of misconception seemed to be the theory that I was an “Event Monster”. Haha! Human players, feel free to panic and fuss all you want!

Nevertheless, the power was truly incredible. If fired at the mountain, it could create a hole, and if aimed at Firth, the entire town would likely vanish in a single strike. It would lead to the slaughter of NPCs, and I knew an acquaintance called Gravekeeper who would never forgive me if I did it.

“Whoa…”

Thanks to the skill’s constant health regeneration effect, my health had finally returned to one-tenth. However, this also resulted in the expiration of the [Dragon Force] skill. With the attributes that had been boosted returning to their original values, a sudden loss of strength overwhelmed me, causing me to feel weak and stagger.

It’s a bit late to mention this now, but it seems that both my stats and my physical sensations were massively enhanced to the point of distortion. The activation conditions for [Dragon Force] were stringent, and its effects faded quickly. Furthermore, it was a skill that could only be activated once every real-time day, which was equivalent to four days in the game. Despite these limitations, it demonstrated power far beyond any expectations.

However, well, here’s the thing. Using it requires being on the brink of death, so if asked whether I want to use it again, my feelings are a bit mixed. No, unleashing the Dragon’s Breath was exhilarating, and I definitely want to use it again. If only there were a skill or piece of equipment that could leave my health at just 1…

“Isaam!? Are you okay!?”

It was Iris who was shouting as she approached. She extended her tentacles almost as if to say that she didn’t want to waste any time while checking over my body.

Um, I understand that it’s because I worried her, but even though it’s a game, it doesn’t feel quite right for a girl to touch a guy’s body so casually, you know? Even if it’s just tentacles and bones! Somehow, the image was terrible.

“That was incredible, what you just did! So, that’s the power of a dragon!” Ruby said.

“Hahaha! Even though I missed the best part, I don’t feel any regret at all! We got to witness something even more amazing!” Jigoro said.

“Indeed! That was worth it!” Genjuro added.

My companions were in high spirits over my genuine last-ditch effort. Their eyes were shining (well, Jigoro was the only one with actual eyeballs…) as they chattered away. It seemed they hadn’t a care in the world about me at all.

In fact, Iris, who was more worried about me than the Dragon’s Breath, was truly kindhearted. It was comforting. Despite her appearance…

“I’m so sorry! It’s because of my carelessness that Isaam ended up in such a near-death situation…”

Ah, she was bothered by that. In that case, I should offer some reassurance.

“Everyone makes mistakes. Just be more conscious about watching your back from now on.”

“Yes! I understand!”

Good, she’s bouncing back. It’s quite something how Iris, who initially claimed to be bad at fighting, has been influenced by us so much. I don’t blame her, though.

Now then! Since the boss battle is over, and now that we’ve recovered, it’s time to try out the incantation on the map…

The monster egg is hatching. Please take it out from your inventory.

Dude noooo! No incantation. Aren’t you still at only 10% health, and you can’t use healing potions?

EGGGGGGGGGGGGG! I am way too excited about this. 😂
