Chapter 12: Monsters’ Exclusive Thread

Released:

I logged in once again, and something peculiar caught my attention. Lately, the level of my [Light Weakness] skill seemed to have reached a plateau, refusing to decrease despite my battles. Could it be that I need to endure more damage to make any progress?

But I digress. Let’s focus on the matter at hand. It was time for some exhilaration. The moment had finally arrived to unveil the reward for conquering my very first boss battle, “Trial of the Azure Moon.” The anticipation I felt was akin to that of a child eagerly awaiting Christmas presents from “Santa Claus.” However, this particular reward was a testament to my hard work, giving it a unique twist.

Enough with the pointless preamble. Let’s proceed with the unveiling!

――――――――――

“Ooooooooooh!!”

Whoa, hold on! Am I really allowed to have something like this?! I let out a surprised cry and ended up stumbling.

The quality and rarity of these items were absolutely top-notch! While I couldn’t compare their performance to anything else since there was no point of reference, it was amazing to know that they would grow stronger as I did. Understanding my limits was important, and above all, I was really starting to appreciate these items. Alright, let’s examine them one by one.

First up was the Staff of Hourai. Its body was crafted from golden wood and adorned with silver roots as decorative accents. At the tip, there was a gem embedded that changed colors depending on the angle at which it was viewed. It was safe to say it was a luxurious staff. And yet, it didn’t overly sparkle, which was fantastic.

Next, we had the Moon’s Feather Robe. Just as the name suggested, it was reminiscent of the attire worn by heavenly maidens. As I lifted it, I was impressed by how light it felt, and the texture was incredibly smooth, even surpassing silk. What’s more, I could even change its colors and shape. If possible, I would love for it to transform into a black hooded robe… I wonder if that’s possible. I should equip it right away.

The third item was the Skull Mask. It had a sleek silver color, just as the name implied, adorned with skull designs. It shared the same shape as my face, but it emitted an overwhelmingly sinister aura. The effects it provided were remarkable, but players who saw it for the first time might be even more taken aback by its appearance.

Lastly, there was the Dragon’s Jewel… it was the same one that “Moon Obsession” held in his left hand. As expected, its effect was the [Dragon Transformation]. It was undoubtedly powerful. I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if I, a skeleton race, used it.

But the other curse, the [Curse of the Dragon God] was too severe. Because of it, “Moon Obsession” had been suffering from a significant reduction in his health. If it were me, I might die within seconds.

Moreover, the warning on it was quite alarming. It stated that upon first use, both the [Dragon Transformation] and the [Curse of the Dragon God] would be forcefully acquired as a set. I definitely had no intention of using it.

Well, first and foremost, this item belonged to the Dragon God. It would be presumptuous to use someone else’s treasure to easily become stronger. Thinking about it, did “Moon Obsession” steal it to pay tribute to someone of Princess Kaguya’s stature?… He’s reckless beyond measure at this point.

But I digress. In any case, I should take responsibility and return it to the Dragon God. Of course, with a little ulterior motive. Regardless, it seems that I’ve found a new goal in playing the game.

That concludes the confirmation of the rewards. Now, let’s equip the three items.

――――――――――

Weapon: Staff of Hourai

Head: Skull Mask

Torso: Tattered Shirt

Arms: None

Waist: Tattered Pants

Legs: None

Accessory: Moon’s Feather Robe (Black, Hooded Robe)

――――――――――

This is my current equipment, although I can hardly fathom how I managed to survive the trial with what I started with. The recklessness of my past self astounds me. I have vowed never to repeat such foolishness again.

Externally, my equipment—the staff, mask, and robe—was top-notch, but internally, I was essentially a hollow shell. Any trace of overconfidence could have proven fatal. Hence, I should proceed with utmost caution, just as I had done before.

Now, let us shift our focus to magic. Thanks to the battle I faced yesterday, I finally unlocked the option to evolve my [Fire Magic] and [Non-Elemental Magic] skills. With the bonus skill points (SP) at my disposal, there was no room for hesitation. It was imperative to swiftly evolve these skills.

――――――――――

[Fire Magic] evolved into [Flame Magic] by consuming 6 SP.

Newly learned “Flame Throw” spell attack.

[Non-Elemental Magic] evolved into [Void Magic] by consuming 6 SP.

Newly learned “Disassembly” spell.

――――――――――

Now, let’s take a look at the overview of the new magic I’ve acquired. I’ve learned six new spells in total, each of them growing stronger when the said kills evolved. These include Fire Pillar, Fire Wave, Magic Lance, and Magic Wave, along with Flame Throw and Disassembly, which were the evolved skills acquired spells.

We don’t need to explain the Wave-type spells, as they function as area-of-effect attacks, just like before. Similarly, we can skip the details of Magic Lance, for the same reason. So, let’s focus on Fire Pillar, Flame Throw, and Disassembly, as they were the ones worth exploring.

Fire Pillar was a magic attack that literally creates a pillar of fire. It may seem limited in its usefulness, but I have already come up with some clever applications for it. I’ll give it a try when the situation allows.

Flame Throw, another fire-based spell, does exactly what the name suggests—it continuously releases flames. Although its range is short, it has an incredibly efficient damage output. With proper utilization, it can be quite useful for dealing with weaker opponents.

Now, let’s talk about Disassembly… This one was something else. Its effect was powerful, but it was also incredibly difficult to use. First, it could only be activated through physical contact with either my own body or my staff. Remote activation through magic circles was ineffective.

At this point, I had a moment of confusion of a “Huh?” But as I read through the description, that confusion turned into a resounding “What?!” It stated that the spell had the ability to molecularly disintegrate any substance within a fist-sized area centered around the initial point of contact, except for indestructible objects.

My initial reaction was, “This is a game-breaker!” However, that thought lasted only for a moment. You might wonder why. I urge you to carefully re-read the previous explanation: it centers around the “initial point of contact.” If I touch it with my fingertips, they become the center. If I touch it with my palm, the initial point of contact on my palm becomes the center.

Do you understand now? The spell would inevitably engulf the caster’s hand. You might think, “Well, then why not use a staff to make contact?” However, using a staff would result in it being damaged beyond repair, requiring the courage to discard it.

While my Staff of Hourai could withstand it, relying solely on the performance of a weapon was not my preferred style of combat. I’ll have to explore various ways to use this spell.

With that, my exploration of magic spells came to an end. The last thing left was to check my new title and the unique skill given to me. Let’s delve into the details.

――――――――――

“Trial Survivor”

A testament to overcoming the trials set forth by the gods.

All skills receive a slight boost, and the favorability of NPCs increases.

Acquisition condition: Conquer the trial of ○○.

“Yifa’s Blessing”

Granted to those favored by Yifa, the “Goddess of Death and Chaos.”

The effectiveness of ??-type magic greatly increases.

The required experience points and SP for the growth and acquisition of ??-type magic decrease.

P.S. This is a reward for your hard work. Please continue to unleash your rampage to your heart’s content♪

――――――――――

Oh, uh… There’s so much I want to say, but first, I should express my gratitude. Thank you, Lady Yifa!

Now then, let’s begin again. First, let’s check the title. Would it enhance my stats without any drawbacks or conditions? It seemed like a reward for clearing the challenges set by the gods.

It was called the “○○ One,” so there must have been other trials out there. If that was the case, once people learned about the effects of this title, there would be those who went to great lengths to seek out the trials. It held that much value, indeed.

Then comes the bestowed blessing… So Lady Yifa was the “Goddess of Death and Chaos.” I had no idea. I had been meaning to steal some books about the gods… Ahem! I mean, I had been planning to purchase them but kept putting it off. I would make time to read them when I could.

And here we go again,??-type magic. What on earth is it? I think it’s the same thing I encountered when I obtained the “Heretic” title… Hmm, I just don’t understand!

Unfortunately, the sun would set soon. I would set aside the things I didn’t understand for now; it was time to go hunting. I didn’t have the time to leisurely read books.

Now, what should I do? Reading books was out of the question, and using [Alchemy] would consume my magic power. I had about five minutes left, which was a very delicate amount of time to spare.

Ah, in that case, let’s seize this opportunity to explore the bulletin board. Despite my lack of prior experience, I discovered that the in-game bulletin board could be accessed through the menu. Interestingly, one could even peruse it using a mobile device by entering their game ID and password. If the content proved intriguing, I could even read it during my real-life commute.

There were casual discussion boards as well, but I heard you could also find necessary information and trivia for strategies. Naturally, one had to exercise caution, as not all the information provided would be accurate. Excessively abusive or harassing comments, as well as spoilers, were swiftly removed. Well, it’s best to take it with a grain of salt for reference purposes.

Oh, I see. There’s a diverse range of topics to explore here. From casual chats to strategic discussions and even product showcases. “Firth City Touring”… This is not relevant to me!  And there’s even a thread for nicknames? Players actually consider things like that among themselves. How interesting.

Oh, it’s the “Trial of Azure Moon” thread. It’s a timely topic for me. I should read it later.

What else is there… Huh? A thread specifically for monsters? That’s great! If I can interact with players who chose monster characters other than myself, I’m all for it.

Hmm? It’s locked. The only condition is that you have to be a monster player character. Well, that’s not an issue for me. Let’s see…

――――――――――

Monsters’ Exclusive Thread 1

1. Administration

This thread is exclusively accessible to players with monster character PCs. Feel free to engage in discussions.

>>980 “Please create the next thread.”

2. Iris

I apologize for the sudden request, but could someone please help me?

Due to an unfortunate spawn location in the middle of the northern mountain, I can’t move at all.

Please, I beg you.

3. Iris

Is anyone there? I was the one who asked for help earlier.

Whenever you have the opportunity, please assist me.

4. Iris

Is anyone there? I was the one who asked for help earlier.

Please. I can’t play properly like this.

5. Iris

Is anyone there?

――――――――――

T-this was terrible. It was becoming increasingly painful to read. What had been even more distressing was that no one except this woman named Iris had written anything.

It was understandable that there were few players who chose non-human characters as their avatars. After all, monster characters faced difficulties enjoying freedom with their starting skills and even had weaknesses as skills. However, Iris’s unfortunate situation stemmed from the fact that most non-human players, like myself, rarely used the bulletin board. As a result, her SOS went unheard by anyone.

Below, the phrase “Is anyone there?” continued endlessly. It felt like reading the diary of someone who had lost their sanity, and it was a bit eerie. Oh, it’s just been updated now. She was still there. Alright, I guess I would leave a comment. It was simply unbearable to ignore her plea.

――――――――――

117. Iris

Is anyone there?

118. Isam

Nice to meet you.

119. Iris

Ju fxbjklg gb! ?

120. Isam

Please calm down. Your brainwaves are in disarray, you know?

121. Iris

I’m…I’m sorry!

122. Isam

So, you need help with something?

123. Iris

Y-yes. Um, well, I want to go to a place where I can safely log out.

It seems like monster characters can’t use the field’s safety area…

124. Isam

I see. Alright, I’ll at least go there to get you. The middle of the northern mountain, right?

125. Iris

Wha…what?! Um, are you really going to come?

I haven’t been able to play properly, so I can’t give you anything in return!

126. Isam

No, we’re both monster characters, aren’t we? Let’s help each other out.

127. Iris

Th-thank bou so muuuch!

128. Isam

Ah, ahaha. Well then, I’ll leave soon.

It will take about two hours in our time.

By the way, I’m a skeleton. What about Iris?

129. Iris

I-I’m, um, well, that, uh, Lesser Roper.

130. Isam

A Lesser Roper huh? Understood.

――――――――――

Alright, that’s settled. She seems like quite an amusing person. Well, let’s go help our non-human comrade right away. If she didn’t seem like a bad person, I would bring her here. I’ve been alone ever since I started playing, and I was starting to crave companionship. It was safe here, and if I acted like a gentleman, she might become my ally… or so I hoped.

Oh, I forgot to ask what a Lesser Roper looked like. The name itself gave off an exciting vibe. Well, I could just check the bulletin board again once I get to the location. No need to rush.

TN: If you’re like me and wondering how she ended up spawning in a place like that or why the management made this mistake, here below, the author explains. Also, there are minor spoilers, so read at your own discretion, if you don’t want to read it, just scroll down to the status menu…..

AN:  First, let’s talk about the starting position for monsters. It’s generally based on “nests or settlements of the same species.” That’s where you secure a safe base and learn how to fight and survive.

However, there’s a prerequisite condition of “being in the vicinity of Firth city or having players visit the same area.” This means that if you choose a monster that wouldn’t typically be present in the early stages, you end up like Iris.

However, it wasn’t the goddess who spawned her in the middle of the mountain as a form of harassment. It was actually done to create a pseudo-safe zone that players find difficult to reach and where monsters are considered to have a limited food supply. It’s a maximum level of consideration, you could say.

That’s why it’s easier to play as a monster if you follow the later stages. In fact, once all the continents are unlocked, it could be like an easy mode for certain races.
