Chapter 15: The Moon Is Beautiful Tonight

Released:

Chu Feng didn’t dare look at Senior Sister Yuyan right now. In this kind of setting, just seeing her made all sorts of indecent thoughts pop into his head.

“Junior Brother, don’t you have anything you want to say to your Senior Sister?”

Bai Yuyan twirled a lock of hair around her slender finger, her beautiful eyes twinkling as she smiled at Chu Feng.

“Ah, um… haha, the weather’s pretty nice today.”

Chu Feng had no idea what to say. Talk about games or anime? Well, they didn’t exist here.

Talk about cultivation? He didn’t know anything. If Senior Sister Yuyan started lecturing, he’d probably fall asleep in no time.

Resting her cheek on her palm, Bai Yuyan gazed out the window after hearing Chu Feng’s reply. Upon seeing the bright moon hanging in the night sky, she sighed softly.

“The moon is beautiful tonight.”

“!!!”

Senior Sister Yuyan… she couldn’t possibly know what that phrase really means… right?

(TN: “The moon is beautiful tonight” is a poetic, indirect way of saying “I love you” in Japanese culture.)

Looking at her calm expression, Chu Feng couldn’t tell whether she’d said it innocently or with something more in mind…

“Do you know what that phrase means, Junior Brother?”

Bai Yuyan turned her head. Her eyes were filled with a soft tenderness that seemed almost magical. Just meeting her gaze for a second could pull someone in completely.

Chu Feng hurriedly looked away. He couldn’t meet her eyes; those eyes were far too dangerous. As a pure-hearted young man, he didn’t stand a chance!

“What does it mean? Doesn’t it just mean the moon looks beautiful tonight?”

Chu Feng decided to play dumb. This world didn’t have Natsume Soseki; how could anyone here possibly know the hidden meaning behind that phrase?

Bai Yuyan stared directly at her junior brother. After a moment, she let out a soft laugh and said,

“That’s true, the moon is beautiful… but I think there’s something even more beautiful.”

Gulp—

Chu Feng swallowed hard. Why did it feel like Senior Sister Yuyan was flirting with him?

But… wasn’t that supposed to be something men did? Senior Sister, you’re a woman!

“R-Right… haha…”

Chu Feng scratched the back of his head. His heart was pounding wildly.

Ever since their first meeting, he’d felt something was off with Senior Sister Yuyan. Who’s that nice to someone they just met?

It didn’t make sense!

Could it be that she was… physically interested in him….ahem, no, let’s rephrase that. Could it be love at first sight?

But his looks weren’t anything special!

Seeing her junior brother still feigning ignorance, Bai Yuyan began to pout. She’d already thrown out so many direct hints, and yet not a single proper response from him?

Not happy. Bai Yuyan was not happy.

“Still playing dumb, Junior Brother?”

Suddenly, she stepped right up in front of Chu Feng.

A breathtakingly beautiful face loomed closer and closer before Chu Feng. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly. Her eyes were full of tender affection. Her warm breath brushed against his face, carrying a faint, elegant fragrance that tugged at his heartstrings.

There was no denying it. Senior Sister Yuyan was truly beautiful. The kind of beauty that could make someone lose themselves.

“N-No, I really don’t know what you meant by that earlier…”

Even though Chu Feng was clearly pretending to be clueless, Bai Yuyan didn’t expose him.

Instead, she stared at him with an amused, knowing smile that made him want to crawl into a hole and hide.

Chu Feng was now almost certain. Senior Sister Yuyan definitely knew the deeper meaning of that phrase. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have kept pressing him about it.

Not getting the answer she wanted, Bai Yuyan was unwilling to let it go. She was just about to make another move in her “strategy”… when suddenly, a shout rang out.

“Someone’s dead! Someone’s dead!”

The voice trembled with fear.

Dead!?

Chu Feng immediately jumped to his feet. Tonight’s event had drawn many powerful cultivators, and yet, even under such circumstances, the killer was still bold enough to act without fear?

When Chu Feng arrived on the scene, a large crowd had already gathered.

In the center stood several members of the Great Yan Empire’s Dragon-Phoenix Guard. A young man lay among them with a pale face. He was completely lifeless.

“What a vicious demonic technique… Not only is all his true energy gone, but even his spiritual root has been destroyed.”

Zhao Lei spoke with a grim expression. He was the captain of this Dragon-Phoenix Guard squad and a fifth-rank cultivator.

Elder Wei was beside him. Looking at the deceased young man, he commented,

“Late stage third-rank cultivator. Judging by his clothes, he was likely a rogue cultivator.”

Not only had a disciple of the Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect fallen, but now even a rogue cultivator had been killed. This incident was clearly no simple matter.

Standing on the outer edge of the crowd, Chu Feng shuddered as he looked at the emaciated corpse. But… why did the guy’s face look so happy?

“Scared, Junior Brother?”

By the time she came out, Bai Yuyan had already put her veil back on.

“Not really… Senior Sister Yuyan, can you tell what killed him?”

“Just got drained dry by a fox demon.”

Bai Yuyan didn’t even need to look closely. She could tell right away. In her previous life, the sect had lost a lot of people to this incident. But this time, she was here. Even though she was only at fourth-rank cultivation, the enemy was just a fifth-rank fox demon. It was still manageable.

“Holy shit! That’s terrifying!”

Chu Feng’s eyes widened in shock. The guy had nearly been sucked out of existence.

“That’s why, Junior Brother…if you ever run into a fox demon, run as far as you can. They’re the kind that eats you whole and doesn’t even spit out the bones.”

Seeing the situation, Bai Yuyan immediately seized the chance to implant a strong first impression in her junior brother’s mind: fox demons drain people’s vital energy. That way, when he eventually encountered that seductive fox spirit, he’d naturally keep his guard up against her.

Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect, Sect Master’s Peak

The sect master looked at his junior martial sister and let out a gentle sigh.

“Junior Sister, it was you who personally requested Lin Ruo as your direct disciple. But it’s only been a single day…how have you already come to regret it?”

Lu Xiyue sat across from her senior brother. In response to his question, she replied calmly,

“Senior Brother, that boy came to our sect with ill intentions. Sooner or later, he will bring about the downfall of the Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect. If you ask me, we should expel Lin Ruo right now before it’s too late.”

This was a lesson Lu Xiyue had learned in her previous life and paid for it in blood. The boy was an expert at putting on a facade. To obtain the Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect’s treasured artifact, he’d gone so far as to betray the very sect that raised him!

“Junior Sister, I understand your current dissatisfaction with Lin Ruo. But even so, we can’t support such a drastic request.”

The sect master spoke helplessly. If he truly agreed to let Lu Xiyue banish her personal disciple, then what would become of the Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect’s credibility?

“How about this, Junior Sister? Let Lin Ruo remain your personal disciple for now. You don’t need to personally guide his cultivation. In a few years, you can remove his status on the grounds that he failed the assessment and let another elder take him in as a disciple.”

Lu Xiyue knew this was her senior brother’s final compromise. Any further argument would be a waste of words.

“Fine. But Senior Brother, I still recommend that Lin Ruo be expelled from the sect altogether. Otherwise, the consequences will be disastrous.”

With that, Lu Xiyue’s figure vanished.

Watching his junior sister leave, the sect master let out a long sigh and rubbed his forehead.

Really now, their master had spoiled her far too much. Even as her senior, he was barely able to keep her in check anymore. Her usual selfishness was one thing, but this time she even wanted to discard a newly accepted personal disciple.

Had it been after a few years, he might have agreed….but it had only been a few days. And Lin Ruo’s talent was quite remarkable. To expel him from the sect would be a real waste.

“I just hope Junior Sister is acting out of momentary emotion.”
