Chapter 17: In the Middle of the Night, the Girl in White

Released:

After Chu Feng left, more and more cultivators were drained of their essence and blood one after another. As the number of victims increased, the Dragon Phoenix Guards directly announced the temporary closure of Fragrant Flower Pavilion.

Some cultivators were dissatisfied with this, since all the dead were low-level cultivators, and most of them were rogue cultivators. Aside from the many deaths in Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect, disciples of other major sects were almost untouched.

But once Elder Wei of Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect appeared, his sixth-rank cultivation suppressed all who were unconvinced. After all, the strongest here were only at the fifth rank. As for those at the sixth rank or higher, they rarely lingered in the mortal world.

By then, the cultivators inside Fragrant Flower Pavilion had already dispersed. The manager, though quite unhappy about it, still had to give face to the Dragon Phoenix Guards and the Great Yan Empress.

After all, they had eighth-rank cultivators. Overturning a single Fragrant Flower Pavilion would be effortless.

Naturally, the disciples of Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect could not remain there either, especially since many of the victims had been their people.

Before leaving, Elder Wei realized that Bai Yuyan was not present. That wouldn’t do; she was the most important disciple of the Moonlight Sword Fairy. If something were to happen to her here, he would have no way to explain it when he returned.

After some inquiries, a female demon revealed that a veiled woman from Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect had reserved a private room.

Just as Elder Wei was about to approach the private room, the door creaked open.

“Elder Wei, what business brings you here?”

Bai Yuyan was spending time alone with her junior brother when she sensed Elder Wei’s approach. She was clearly displeased. Really now, interrupting her while she was trying to build a deeper bond with her junior brother.

“More people have died in the Fragrant Flower Pavilion. It’s best to leave this place for now.”

Upon hearing Elder Wei’s words, Bai Yuyan showed no surprise. That fox demon must’ve treated tonight as her last night here. She filled herself before making her escape.

“There’s no need for Elder Wei to trouble yourself with this. I have my own plans.”

Catching the fox demon wasn’t urgent. After all, the demon was in hiding while she herself was out in the open; it wouldn’t be easy. For now, strengthening her bond with her junior brother was far more important.

“Bai Yuyan, you’re the disciple of the Moonlight Sword Fairy. If you were to die here, then…”

Elder Wei didn’t finish the sentence, but the implication was clear to both of them.

“I understand your concern, Elder Wei. But I’m confident I can handle this fox demon. If you’re truly worried, I can write a letter for you right now, stating that should I fall here, you bear no responsibility whatsoever. You won’t need to worry about how it affects your promotion.”

Bai Yuyan saw right through Elder Wei’s thoughts. If she died here, it wouldn’t just compromise his chances of a future promotion….he might not even be able to keep his current position.

With a flick of her finger, Bai Yuyan summoned a letter that she had already written.

“…Very well.”

Seeing this, Elder Wei knew that any further persuasion would be pointless, so he left.

Back inside the room, Chu Feng asked, “Senior Sister Yuyan, who was that just now?”

“Oh, no one. Just an old man,” Bai Yuyan replied casually.

“Oh…”

Hearing that, Chu Feng couldn’t help but feel a bit curious. An old man? In a brothel?

After chatting with Senior Sister Yuyan for a while, Chu Feng began to feel sleepy. Fortunately, there were two bedrooms here. Otherwise, he had a feeling Senior Sister Yuyan might’ve insisted on squeezing into the same bed with him.

If that really happened, he figured he probably wouldn’t be able to sleep at all.

Chu Feng had always been a quick sleeper, and as soon as he touched the bed, he quickly drifted off.

He didn’t know how long he’d been asleep when he suddenly heard silvery, bell-like laughter echoing in his ears. Gradually, the sound became clearer until it finally woke him up.

“What’s going on?”

Chu Feng shook his head, thinking the laughter must’ve been part of a dream. But once he was fully awake, he realized the sound seemed to be coming from the courtyard.

Gulp—

Chu Feng glanced out the window. It was the dead of night, the darkness thick. And now, a woman’s laughter was echoing from the courtyard.

This… this was straight out of a horror movie!

Could it be a ghost? Then again, this was a cultivation world. The appearance of a ghost was entirely plausible.

But for Chu Feng, dealing with monsters was one thing, but ghosts were a whole different story. Just the thought of encountering a ghost made his legs tremble.

No, this wouldn’t do. He needed to wake up Senior Sister Yuyan.

Chu Feng got out of bed immediately and hurried to her room. The door was slightly ajar.

“S-Senior Sister Yuyan…”

He cautiously pushed the door open, but once he saw that she wasn’t inside, he froze on the spot.

Shit! She’s not here!

He was doomed. The eerie laughter still echoed in his ears, growing no less frequent or distant.

Screw it! Time to find out what the hell is going on!

Chu Feng headed to a corner and pulled out the sword his master had given him. Then…

Shhhh—

A stream of slightly warm, yellowish liquid poured over the blade.

Okay. Virgin urine buff successfully activated!

Just as Chu Feng stepped toward the door, a horrifying realization hit him.

Wait a minute… he wasn’t a virgin anymore.

“…Hehehehehe…”

The laughter continued to echo in Chu Feng’s ears. Forget it… if it’s fate, there’s no escaping it. If trouble’s coming, he might as well face it head-on.

Chu Feng pushed the door open. Now that he had stepped into the first rank, all his physical stats had significantly improved. Under the moonlight, he could see the courtyard clearly.

There, a young girl in a snow-white dress sat on a swing. She was gently swaying back and forth in the night. Her laughter rang like silver bells drifting through the air.

She had her back to him, and as Chu Feng glanced at the ground beneath her, he spotted a shadow. That eased his mind a little.

Sensing his presence, the girl slowly stopped swinging and turned her head. A delicate, pale face came into view.

She smiled upon seeing him and said, “Can’t sleep either, young master?”

“Ah… haha, yes,” Chu Feng replied awkwardly.

But in his heart, he grumbled: If it weren’t for you sitting out here giggling like an idiot, I’d be fast asleep by now.

“Miss, it’s the middle of the night…. why are you out here?”

Chu Feng was genuinely puzzled. Who the hell comes out to swing at this hour?

In his previous life, this kind of behavior would’ve been classified as just plain crazy.

Upon hearing his question, the girl in white lowered her head slightly, then raised it again with a soft sigh.

“I am but a courtesan of this place. I’ve been here for a long time… every day spent with different men. My body… my spirit… it’s as if I’m already dead inside…”

As she spoke, she began to sob.

Chu Feng’s mouth fell open. Why is she crying all of a sudden? He hadn’t said anything impolite, did he?

After a moment of crying, the girl took out a handkerchief and dabbed at her tears before continuing.

“My life here is worse than death. I’ve prayed every day that a kind young master would come and redeem me. If someone would take me away from this place, I’d be willing to serve him loyally forever, in gratitude beyond words…”

Once again, tears streamed down her cheeks. Even her robe had slipped slightly off her shoulders, revealing a delicate, fair shoulder. Coupled with her crying expression, it stirred an instinctive sense of pity.

As she cried, she subtly peeked at Chu Feng and was puzzled. Strange… why is this human man still standing there like a statue?

Meanwhile, Chu Feng stood frozen while watching her cry. His mouth was slightly open, unsure of what to say.

Me, buy her freedom?

What kind of joke is that?

Setting aside the fact that he didn’t have a single coin to his name, just the mere fact that he encountered a white-clothed girl in the middle of the night was strange.

Logically speaking, that laughter should’ve woken more than just him. And yet, here he was…. alone in the courtyard with her.

Something’s wrong. Seriously wrong…nine out of ten it’s wrong.

In reality, the reason Chu Feng was the only one left was because all the other cultivators had already been driven away by the Dragon Phoenix Guards.
