Chapter 4: Senior Sister Bai

Released:

After Lu Xiyue left, only Chu Feng remained in the room. But he didn’t get up right away. He kept sitting, since he needed some time to calm his restless heart.

Sometimes, when one’s master was such a stunning beauty, it was easy for the body to become as unyielding as stone, making it hard to stand up immediately.

After a short while, Chu Feng began to look around. The room was nice. It was simple but more than enough. He wasn’t picky; as long as he had a place to stay, it was fine.

The next day, Chu Feng slept in until the sun was already high in the sky. He couldn’t help it; the past few days had been spent surviving in the wilderness, where he hardly dared to sleep deeply. What if he dozed off too much and got eaten by wild beasts?

Wait! It’s already this late?!

Chu Feng jumped up in a hurry. This was bad…what if he left a bad impression on his master?!

“Feng’er, are you awake?”

A sweet, melodious voice rang out, followed by the graceful, enchanting figure of Lu Xiyue appearing before him.

“Master, I’m sorry, I woke up late…”

No matter what, apologizing came first. After all, back in his old world, that was the usual way of things. When in doubt, bow and apologize in one go. He used to scoff at that… but now? He had to admit, it worked like a charm!

“It’s all right, Feng’er. You’re still at the age where your body is growing. Sleeping a little longer is no problem.”

In truth, Lu Xiyue had arrived long ago and wanted to wake Feng’er. But when she saw his peaceful sleeping face, she couldn’t help but linger and watch.

Just before he woke up, she had concealed her presence, pretending she had just come in. After all, if Feng’er ever caught her secretly watching him sleep, wouldn’t all her dignity as a master vanish instantly?

To Chu Feng’s surprise, his master was actually so easy to talk to. He thought that should definitely be rare. With such a master, he absolutely had to honor and respect her!

Those little improper thoughts in his heart…he had to crush them completely!

Originally, Lu Xiyue had intended to introduce Yuyan so Feng’er could meet his Senior Sister. But Yuyan told her to wait. She was currently at a critical stage of her breakthrough.

That was true. In her past life, Yuyan had treated Feng’er with the same indifference she showed Lu Xiyue. That treacherous disciple had been far too good at putting on an act. So much so that even with the title of Moonlight Sword Fairy, her eyes had been blinded.

“Come along. Today, Master will take you to receive your identity token.”

“Yes, Master.”

The moment Chu Feng heard this, he immediately followed behind his master.

As one of the foremost sects in the cultivation world, Heaven’s Pinnacle Sect did not accept disciples with something as simple as climbing a mountain. There was still the final trial: one had to choose a task and complete it in order to officially join the sect.

If you failed, you wouldn’t be expelled outright, but you would instead be assigned as a menial disciple. If fortune favored you later on, there might still be a chance to rise to the rank of full disciple.

According to the difficulty of the tasks, the sect had set requirements for how many participants were needed. The simple ones could be completed by a single person, while the harder ones required teams of several.

Holding the identity token given to him by his master, Chu Feng arrived at the place where tasks were issued.

Since he had entered the sect on the very last day, there weren’t many disciples left here claiming tasks.

Chu Feng glanced at the scattered tasks on the panel, and his mouth twitched uncontrollably.

– Postnatal care for a spirit beast — 1 person.

– Taste test of a new spirit-insect salad — 1 person.

– Retrieve an egg from any fourth-rank demonic beast — 10 people.

– Obtain the horn of a flood dragon — 10 people.

Good grief! The simple tasks weren’t worth taking, and the difficult ones were impossible. Wasn’t there anything in between?!

“Fellow disciple, would you like to team up with us?”

Just then, a handsome young man walked up to Chu Feng.

“And you are…?”

Chu Feng gave him a once-over. The smile on the man’s face made his rear tighten all of a sudden.

“My name is Xue Zhiping, from the Xue Clan of Cangzhou in the Great Yan Dynasty. Our team is still short one person. Once you join us, we can set out immediately. Besides, teaming up with me is the kind of blessing that only comes once in eight lifetimes.”

As he spoke, Xue Zhiping’s demeanor grew increasingly arrogant. He was practically writing the words “needs a beating” across his face.

Of course, Xue Zhiping had the right to be arrogant. After all, the Xue Clan of Cangzhou had quite the reputation in Great Yan.

Looking at the boy before him, Xue Zhiping was already preparing himself for the usual reaction. This kid would be crying and clinging to his thigh in gratitude. He’d seen it countless times. After all, this time he had chosen a high-difficulty task.

Once he completed it, he would be eligible to apply to become the personal disciple of the Moonlight Sword Immortal. Originally, Xue Zhiping had been full of confidence that he would secure that position for himself… but at the last moment, someone else had stolen it from him.

Staring at the smug expression plastered across the other party’s face, Chu Feng had the sudden urge to give him a warm, heartfelt kiss on the cheek with his size 42 shoe. Did this guy not realize how much young master Chu despised people like him?!

You’re this arrogant. Do your parents even know?!

Chu Feng really wanted to say that out loud, but given that his strength was currently just a “tiny bit” too weak, he decided to play it safe for now.

“Thanks for the kind offer, fellow disciple, but I think I’ll go take a look at some other tasks instead.”

Chu Feng felt that teaming up with that idiot would be a big mistake!

It seemed that whether in his previous life or in this cultivation world, there was never a shortage of fools like this.

Putting distance between himself and that idiot, Chu Feng began slowly browsing through the available tasks.

“Junior brother, still hesitating over which task to choose? Feeling uncertain about your future?”

The sudden voice startled Chu Feng. He turned his head and realized that at some point, a young man had appeared beside him…and was even calling him “junior brother”.

“Yes, senior brother. Might you be willing to offer some guidance?”

Looking at the gentle expression on the young man’s face, Chu Feng found him much more pleasant than the last guy. At least there were still some normal people around.

“This task is just right for you, junior brother. Very simple.”

The young man pointed to an inconspicuous task in the lower right corner. Chu Feng followed his gaze.

Explore an unknown cave, 2 participants.

Not bad. It didn’t look very dangerous. But come to think of it, he didn’t remember seeing this task here earlier.

Maybe he had missed it just now?

“Many thanks, senior brother!”

Chu Feng thanked him, picked up the task, and went to submit it.

After watching Chu Feng’s figure disappear, the young man let out a long breath, as if he was finally freed, then pulled out a communication jade slip and said, “Senior Sister Bai, I’ve completed the task you assigned me.”

“Mhmm. Very good.”

A soft female voice came through the jade slip.

“Senior Sister Bai, why are you putting so much effort into a disciple who just joined the sect?”

The young man muttered in disbelief. Early this morning, the dream girl of countless disciples, Senior Sister Bai, had personally come to find him. He’d been so excited, thinking his romantic luck had finally arrived.

But instead, Senior Sister Bai took out a portrait and told him that this “person” must accept a specific task.

There was no way he could refuse. After all, Senior Sister Bai was the chief disciple of the Moonlight Sword Immortal. Her status far surpassed his own.

But wait… hadn’t she been in closed-door cultivation recently?

Haah, whatever. This kind of thing was far beyond what an ordinary disciple like him could meddle in.

Chu Feng brought the task to the mission registration area to sign up.

“Here, take this. Also, once you head out, turn right. Your partner should be holding a token exactly like the one in your hand.”

The disciple handling registration didn’t even look up as he tossed a token to Chu Feng.

Chu Feng quickly caught it. The number on it read “521”.

Five Hundred Twenty-One?

“Alright, thank you!”

Holding the token, Chu Feng followed the instructions and turned right after exiting.

“Whoa! I’ve never seen such a beautiful woman in my life!”

“Who… who is this fairy? I’ve never even heard of her before!”

“Truly, one glance steals a kingdom; another steals my heart!”

Hearing the commotion from the crowd, Chu Feng looked up…and was instantly stunned.
