Chapter 42: Oh No. I’m Doomed

Released:

Showing off the origin of the dress to Senior Sister Jiang… how is that any different from taunting her to her face?! This is practically playing with fire!

Just reading the main quest description made Qin Wanyuan feel a sense of foreboding. Jiang Moqing was a woman with an extremely possessive nature carved deep into her personality.

Normally, the emotion-suppressing technique of the Heartless Valley helped keep her in check, but if provoked again… who knew what might happen?

System, did you assign this quest just to mess with me?

[This system is fair and honest. The main quest is key to helping the host’s Dao companion capture his targets. If it is not completed, the plot cannot progress.]

[The host has noticed it too, right? Ever since the last quest, Lin Que and Jiang Moqing’s relationship has stalled. To push it forward, a trigger is necessary.]

…Fine.

Although the quest looked ominous, Qin Wanyuan had to admit that the system had a point.

It had been nearly a month since she awakened the system. Jiang Moqing’s affection for Lin Que had gradually grown, but Lin Que remained lukewarm. Qin Wanyuan would be lying if she said she wasn’t anxious.

The calamity of the demonic cultivators wiping out the sect was only two years away. Since she couldn’t yet uncover the traitor within the sect, her only option was to focus on improving her and Lin Que’s cultivation levels. Only then could she protect this little home of theirs.

Qin Wanyuan took a deep breath and steeled herself.

So what if it’s a blatant taunt? I’ll do it!

Still, before setting out, Qin Wanyuan picked out a few protective magic treasures from her storage ring…. better safe than sorry.

Of course, Lin Que had no idea what was going through her mind. At that moment, he was already in the kitchen preparing dinner.

Cooking, in fact, required some thought. The menu had to be tailored to each person’s preferences. In this little household, everyone had different tastes: Qin Wanyuan liked sweet food, Qin Qian’er preferred spicy and sour flavors, while Lin Que himself leaned toward standard savory dishes, though he wasn’t picky.

As a side note, Jiang Moqing had the same taste as Qin Wanyuan. A sweet tooth. The first time Lin Que saw that cold, aloof senior sister eagerly licking a candied hawthorn stick, his expression had been quite the sight.

Back when Qin Qian’er and Lin Que didn’t get along, he hadn’t needed to consider her preferences and simply cooked everything to Qin Wanyuan’s liking.

Soon, a table full of various flavors, dishes tailored to satisfy both Qin Wanyuan and Qin Qianer’s tastes, was ready. Everyone gathered around the table. Qin Qian’er buried her head in her food, while Qin Wanyuan blinked and looked at her younger sister.

“Qian’er, how did your research on that phoenix egg go this afternoon? Any progress?” she asked, trying to start a conversation.

Lin Que had been right. The two sisters couldn’t stay awkward with each other over something like that forever. As the older sister, she had to be the one to break the silence first.

“Mm. As expected of a divine beast’s egg. Just observing it for an afternoon gave me the faint sense that my cultivation bottleneck is about to break through. I should be able to start preparing for the breakthrough tomorrow,” Qin Qian’er replied with a smile.

Seeing her sister respond and not bring up what had happened at noon, Qin Wanyuan let out a breath of relief.

Just as Lin Lang said… Qian’er is going to pretend that never happened. That’s a relief…

So the two sisters naturally chatted about everyday things, never mentioning what had occurred earlier that day.

After the meal, Lin Que took out a few books from his storage ring and handed them to Qin Qian’er. “These are some books on gods and ghosts I brought back from Wanbao City. They might be helpful to you.”

Looking at the brand-new books, Qin Qian’er didn’t take them immediately. Instead, she looked at her sister. Only after seeing the latter nod did she accept them.

“…Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

The two of them interacted as if they had just met. They were formal and courteous. But Qin Wanyuan didn’t try to force anything. As long as Lin Que and Qin Qian’er’s relationship could gradually improve, that was enough for her.

As the saying goes: A harmonious home brings prosperity to everything.

As night fell, Qin Qian’er took over the dishwashing duty, while Lin Que and Qin Wanyuan bathed and then returned to their room to rest.

Qin Wanyuan was very fond of the Floating Fairy Dress and couldn’t bear to take it off. She stood in front of the dressing table mirror, admiring herself in the glazed mirror, occasionally fluttering her sleeves, looking very pleased.

Lin Que had originally been reading the second fragment of the scroll given by the little demon, but his gaze couldn’t help but drift toward Qin Wanyuan… particularly the way her flowing skirt danced and her faintly visible white silk-clad legs.

“Ahem.”

He cleared his throat, stood up, and walked toward her as if nothing were out of the ordinary.

Then, gently wrapping his arms around her slender waist from behind, he lowered his head and whispered into her ear.

“Wanyuan, it’s getting pretty late… don’t you think we should also…”

It had to be said…. with that Floating Fairy Dress on, the already elegant Qin Wanyuan looked even more alluring.

And Lin Que… couldn’t hold back anymore.

Feeling the young man’s warm breath against her ear as he whispered, and the firm pressure against her waist, Qin Wanyuan felt her whole body go weak.

“But Lin Lang, I…”

I’m out of potions.

That day, just to get Lin Que to surrender once, she’d downed both bottles she had stockpiled.

Even then, it had only barely worked.

If she had to face a desire-fueled Lin Que now without taking any potion…

Just imagining it made her knees go weak!

“If it’s inconvenient, then let’s not.”

Lin Que said softly. His large hand which had been resting on her lower abdomen slowly moved away.

He always respected Qin Wanyuan’s wishes.

“It’s not that it’s inconvenient.”

Noticing that Lin Que’s hand had pulled away, Qin Wanyuan gently took hold of it instead. Biting her lip softly, she murmured, “I just wanted to take off the dress first.”

After all, it was newly bought. If it got ruined, she would be heartbroken.

Besides, it wasn’t that she wanted to turn Lin Que down.

As the system once said, she was inexperienced yet eager, and it wasn’t entirely wrong. Even though she knew she wouldn’t stand a chance without her potion, she still wanted to try.

On the other side, realizing Qin Wanyuan was only worried about dirtying the dress, Lin Que chuckled.

“No need. Just like this is fine. I’ll take care of cleaning it later.”

As he spoke, his hands began to wander, soon brushing against her silk-covered thighs.

“Ah—”

Qin Wanyuan let out a soft sound, quietly setting up a soundproofing formation around the room and allowing Lin Que to continue.

Outside, the moonlight was calm, the night wind still.

But inside the room, the candle flames danced rhythmically, flickering wildly, accompanied by faint sweet murmurs.

Eventually, the flickering flames settled and everything returned to peace.

The entire moment had lasted no more than fifteen minutes.

“…Hah… hah…”

Qin Wanyuan lay collapsed in Lin Que’s arms, breathing heavily. Her legs were trembling slightly. But her expression was tinged with frustration.

“I’m sorry, Lin Lang… I still couldn’t…”

In response, Lin Que simply smiled gently and stroked her small head to comfort her.

“It’s alright. Just getting this far already makes me happy.”

After saying that, Lin Que once again silently activated the Heart Clearing Technique.

Noticing this, Qin Wanyuan simply buried her head in his chest, overwhelmed with guilt.

Sorry, Lin Lang… Please bear with it just a little longer. Once I complete the mission tomorrow and my constitution improves again, I’ll definitely be able to satisfy you…

Suddenly, Qin Wanyuan stopped. She realized something…something quite serious.

The system’s main task was for her to show off the Flowing Fairy Dress that Lin Que had bought her in front of Jiang Moqing.

However…

She lowered her head to check the condition of the dress.

Thankfully, the dress itself was mostly intact. The water stains on it would disappear completely with a proper wash.

As long as she could endure the embarrassment, she could still wear it out.

But the real problem was… during their earlier encounter, Lin Que had casually ripped her white Ice Silkworm Stockings, and now there were several holes in them.

System, can I go without wearing these white Ice Silkworm Stockings?

Qin Wanyuan asked in her mind, desperately looking for a way out.

After all, wearing ripped stockings to visit her senior sister was beyond humiliating! And to top it off, she was supposed to flaunt them in front of Senior Sister Jiang…

Wouldn’t she take one look at the holes in the stockings and instantly guess what happened last night between her and Lin Que?!

But what the system said next shattered her last shred of hope.

[No. The white stockings and the Flowing Fairy Dress are a set. If not worn together, the task cannot be completed.]

Qin Wanyuan: …Oh no. I’m doomed.
