To be honest, I had thought I was destined for a peaceful life.
With an enviable profession as a professor at the academy and an appearance that exuded credibility, it was as if the world itself whispered to me that a good life was mine to have. Of course, I hadn’t earned any of it through my own efforts, but now, it was mine nonetheless.
“Hello, Professor!”
Passing students greeted me with bright smiles.
“Yes, good morning, Sister.”
I simply nodded and returned their greetings as I walked past them.
The scenery was just as fresh and vibrant as their smiles. And since my daily life was just as peaceful, I had thought all I needed to do was enjoy it.
[So, when do you plan to kill again, Brother? It seems about time for another one.]
Ah.
That voice, the one that always echoed in my head, never failed to shatter my peace….until it inevitably did.
“…Please, I already told you to give me some time.”
[But you made a promise, did you not? You agreed to personally find someone for me to kill.]
“Well, I did say that, but…”
Yes, I had said I would find someone myself. It had been a desperate attempt to buy time, but in the end, all I had done was place a Death Note into my own hands.
That said, I had no choice but to obey. After all, I was merely a tenant. I was just a parasite clinging to the original owner of this body. And the problem was that the landlord happened to be a murderer.
Yeah…
A tenant has no say when the landlord gives an order. What could a man who possessed the body of a serial killer possibly hope for?
Damn this needlessly diligent murderer.
[I can hear all your thoughts, Brother.]
…
That was the point.
