Volume 8: Determination to Break Out of Prison Chapter 2

Released:

Fuyu raised her astonished face from the letter.

The one she had been reading was a letter handed to her by Barton this morning.

In it, Barton had poetically described his heartfelt feelings for Fuyu, highlighting what a wonderful woman she was.

Fuyu, with an incredulous expression, checked the name on the envelope.

She still couldn’t believe that she had received such a beautiful love letter; she was yet to be fully convinced.

But the name written on the front was indeed addressed to Sagara Fuyu, and it seemed undoubtedly meant for her.

“Really? Is this for real?”

While suppressing the excitement in her heart and trying to maintain a calm demeanor, Fuyu read the letter once again.

This marked the eighth time she had repeated this process since this morning.

Having read Barton’s letter around twelve times in the morning, Fuyu finally folded the letter.

However, she couldn’t bring herself to put it away immediately. She gently stroked the envelope, gazed at the recipient’s name and sender’s details, and spent time in reflection.

Finally satisfied, Fuyu tucked the letter between the pages of the book Barton had once given her.

After that, Fuyu took out paper and a pen to write the reply to Barton.

However, it was just a draft.

The real letter would be written after Barton gets her a piece of paper and an envelope.

Fuyu had never written a letter to anyone before, but she wanted to use beautiful paper.

In the Asuka country, there was an elegant custom of adding incense to love letters written to loved ones.

It was her first time writing a love letter. She wanted to choose it herself, hoping to bring some joy to Barton, but being imprisoned, she couldn’t even do that.

“So, I wasn’t granted even the smallest freedom…”

Fuyu realized her own helplessness, something she had given up on long ago.

She understood that all she could give Barton was her sincere feelings, and with that in mind, she earnestly started writing the letter.

However, Fuyu’s emotions were hard to put into words. Only the feeling of love remained at the forefront.

Fuyu, unusually, lay on the floor in a spread-eagle position and squirmed, moving her arms and legs.

“Agh, what should I do now?!”

A sweet yet poignant cry echoed faintly in the special underground cell.

On that day, dinner was much more luxurious than usual, and the prisoners’ smiles spread wide.

The bread was raisin bread with butter, and the stew was filled with plenty of chicken and vegetables.

The town was celebrating the Festival of Restoration.

The Festival of Restoration was a celebration of the brave hero defeating the demon king, and from today on, various events were scheduled for five days.

We, the prison guards, were busy from the morning, releasing those with little time left in their sentences as part of the amnesty, but in the evening, a party organized by Warden Blackberry was also planned as a token of appreciation.

I hurried to the underground cell to ensure the stew stayed warm.

While the whole town was reveling in the festive mood, I wondered how the person responsible for defeating the demon king felt about this day.

As I carried the slightly more luxurious prisoner’s meal, I couldn’t help but feel the absurdity of the world.

“Ms. Fuyu, I brought dinner for you.”

“Thank you.”

Fuyu was jotting something down, but she hastily concealed it.

I wonder if she was writing down some kind of magic spell she didn’t want others to see.

“Today’s meal is a feast, though it might be ironic for you, Ms. Fuyu,”

“There’s no guilt in enjoying food. I don’t mind.”

She replied with an untroubled smile, and it made me feel relieved.

Until then, I had felt as if I was carrying the weight of all humanity’s sins, delivering this festival meal to the esteemed hero.

“For me, the past doesn’t matter anymore. I want to focus only on the future I’ll build with Mr. Wolf.”

She said this while blushing and looking down; she was irresistibly cute.

“You’re right. We must concentrate on getting out of here now. Come on, let’s eat the stew while it’s warm. Eat plenty to build up your strength.”

“Yeah.”

While Fuyu was having her meal, I glanced through the new magic scroll she had handed me.

This time, it was a basic water magic spell that could create 10 liters of water.

“By the way, do you think spatial teleportation magic is still impossible?”

“Most likely. We can’t be sure since we don’t know the details of this cell, but the presence of the ‘shipstone’ might hinder my teleportation,” Fuyu replied.

We had considered using a variation of the magic scroll, writing a spatial teleportation spell on the floor of her cell to escape, but we had to abandon the idea due to the mentioned reasons.

It seemed clear that we needed to first release Fuyu from the magic seal restraints and then find a way out of this special cell.

“First, we deal with the magic seal, and then the iron bars.”

“Yes, and I’ve come up with a solution for the magic seal restraints,” Fuyu said.

As expected of Ms. Fuyu, her intellect surpassed mine.

“What kind of solution did you find?”

“You would start by using Wind Cutter to sever both my arms along with the magic seal restraints.”

What?!

“After that, we would use an advanced healing spell to regenerate the lost limbs, so it’s not a problem.”

“Um, I haven’t written any advanced magic scrolls yet… Besides, I’m not sure if I can cast it correctly.”

If there are any typos or mistakes, the spell won’t activate.

“In that case, you don’t need to worry. Once the magic seal restraints are removed, I’ll handle the magic. If we manage to get out of here before my arms are cut, everything will be fine.”

Fuyu’s nonchalant remark caught me off guard, and I couldn’t help but be surprised.

Instead, she seemed to be looking at me expectantly, as if waiting for some praise for her rather absurd idea.

“I don’t want to cut off the arms of someone I love.”

“Someone you love… hic!”

Why the sudden hiccups?

“Well, um… you see, it’s just that… there are no other options… hic! Mr. Wolf suddenly said he loved me… hic! It was such a surprise that I got hiccups… hic!”

Despite having the world’s strongest defense, Fuyu’s love immunity seemed to be nonexistent…

I really didn’t want to resort to this plan. Still, I accepted the wind magic spell.

If it came down to escaping, we might have to fight pursuers.

I had already made up my mind.

I was prepared to defy the world and escape with Ms. Fuyu if needed.
