Chapter 143: End of the Defense Event!

Released:

After our return using Base Teleport, I, Seventh Armor, and Moth-san decided to wait in this hideout until the event concluded. The hideout was quite far from Illeves, so we didn’t expect the remaining members to make it back here before that time. Besides, we were already registered as friends, which meant we could easily get in touch once the event was over. There would be no issues with regrouping later.

Although I had informed Iris and the others and could have immediately added them to the guild, the system was designed to prevent that. To add someone new to the guild, they had to be friends with at least two guild members. This was a rule we had set in advance.

I didn’t know this, but according to Shio, guilds in a game she used to play that had relaxed restrictions on joining often faced troubles. While it might be the leader’s duty to resolve such issues, we concluded that it’s better not to include members who are too incompatible with us from the start.

Now, let’s check out the new spells and titles I acquired from the last battle. First there was the element enhancement of the [Enchantment] skill, which increases the element attack power of the person it’s bestowed upon. This applies not just to magic spells, but also to physical attacks.

This means that if you have a weapon with a specific element, its damage also increases. This could be more effective than other stat-enhancing effects when dealing with enemies that are weak to specific elements.

Next were the titles: “Angel Slayer” and “Earle’s Enemy”. It would be quicker to just read their descriptions.

――――――――――

  • “Angel Slayer”

The proof of one who has vanquished the angel of God

Increases damage dealt to angels slightly.

Requirement: Defeat an angel

  • “Earle’s Enemy”

Bestowed upon those who incur the wrath of “Earle, the Goddess of Light and Order”.

Makes you more likely to be targeted by light attribute angels.

Increases damage dealt to and received from light attribute angels.

PS: When I find you, I’ll crush you completely! Remember that!

――――――――――

“The Angel Slayer” was a title all of us had earned. Had I defeated more of the angels, perhaps I would have earned the “Angel Killer” title? However, if I were to be too complacent at the time, the effect of the [Dragon Force] would have worn off, and we could have faced defeat, so it’s best not to get too greedy.

On the other hand, “Earle’s Enemy” was a problematic title. While it increased the damage dealt to Earle’s minions, it also increased the damage we received. While maintaining distance or having allies for protection could mitigate this, the real issue was that it made me, the rearguard, more susceptible to being targeted.

This could potentially disrupt aggro management, which was a skill necessary for tanks like Eiji. The exact effect was unclear, but if it caused enemies to completely ignore the vanguard and target me, it would be extremely troublesome. It would be wise to avoid Earle’s angels as much as possible, even though I was curious to test the title’s power.

“Hmm. Looks like both of you managed to evolve successfully.”

“Yes, we’re in top form.”

“Right! Thanks to Isam’s Chimera creation!”

That concluded my part. Moth-san and Seventh Armor had evolved after surviving the intense battle. Moth-san had become a Big Blood Fighter Bat, specializing more in combat, while Seventh Armor evolved into a Summon White Crow with pure white feathers.

Moth-san had grown larger and more robust. Previously, despite being considered large, he was still small enough to perch on my shoulder or staff. However, that was no longer feasible, as he had grown to the size of a kindergarten child. If he were to insist on perching now, it would likely cause stiff shoulders. Though, I don’t have any muscles to get stiff!

As for Seventh Armor, he evolved into a crow with white feathers as a result of using the chimera creation spell on him while using some items that we obtained from the angel. Here are the details of the item used:

――――――――――

  • White Exusiai Feather – Quality: Fair, Rarity: S (Special)

A feather from an angel serving “Earle, the Goddess of Light and Order.”

This feather belongs to an Exusiai and is imbued with the light element.

――――――――――

It was one of the feathers of one of the five White Exusiai that we defeated. True to its description of being “imbued with the light element”, Seventh Armor gained both [Light Magic] and [Light Resistance] from his evolution. However, at the same time, he also acquired [Dark Weakness].

Because of this, he was unable to use the [Dark Magic] he had intended to learn next. It was a setback, but one that could be overcome. It would take some extra effort, but it was unavoidable as it was the result of Seventh Armor’s choice. Incidentally, Moth-san had also attempted to use this feather, but it couldn’t be selected as a material for him.

Therefore, he didn’t become a Chimera. He seemed disappointed, but there was nothing to be done about it. He just had to wait for the next opportunity.

“But, is it okay? For me to keep the rest of the items?” I asked.

“Yes~, yess~! After all, Isam-san did most of the fighting. Just being able to share in the spoils is more than enough.”

“Actually, it might be more beneficial this way. By the time we meet up, these could be turned into useful equipment.”

There were several other drop items from the White Exusiai. However, they decided to entrust them to me. I was already planning to ask our fellow craftsman in the guild, Iris, to process them. She was capable of crafting impressive equipment.

I’m glad to be trusted, but it’s true that it also makes me feel a sense of responsibility. I know it’s pointless to worry since I’ll be heading back to Birdy Perch as soon as the event is over, but it’s just in my nature to be concerned about these things.

“But don’t expect them to be ready for sure, okay? Iris is a player too. She has her own time constraints.”

“Of course.”

“We wouldn’t rush her.”

Not just the two of them, but everyone seemed envious that all my armor was made by Iris. However, she was just a regular player. She couldn’t log in every day, let alone stay online all day. The others seemed to understand this as well.

Ping

“Huh?”

“Uwa?”

“Oh?”

At the sound of the notification, all three of us reacted simultaneously. There was only one notification that would come at this moment.

――――――――――

The events “Defend the Mining City!” and “To the Battlefield of Blood” have ended.

Reward items have been sent to your inventory.

In thirty minutes, you will be teleported back to the save point before the event started.

If you wish to return immediately, please touch “Return” in the event tab from the menu.

――――――――――

“The event’s over, huh? Good job till now.”

“Good job to you too.”

“Good jooob~! Wow, that was more chaotic than I expected!”

Finally, the event seems to have ended. For now, a break is in order. And there’s a timer in the upper right of my field of view, counting down from thirty minutes. This shows how much longer I can stay here. That’s quite thoughtful.

“What will you two do? I plan to head back immediately.”

“I’ll do the same.”

“We need to start moving north to join up with Isam-san’s group.”

I’ve informed everyone about the teleportation device in the northern mountains. Except for Eiji and Usaji, who were too far away, everyone else would make their way there on their own. The boss over there, the Twin Head Wind Eagle, was a formidable enemy, but with the increased levels of Seventh Armor and the others, they should be able to defeat it without a problem.

Besides, I’ve also informed them about the attack patterns of the monsters and bosses along the way, so it might even be an easy journey for them. The tension of battling without any prior information for the first time wasn’t bad, but it was better for them to join us as soon as possible.

“I see. Well then, I hope we can meet up soon. See you later.”

“Yeah! See you next time!”

“Yes, goodbye.”

With that, we touched the “Return” button on the virtual window. And so, that’s how this event came to an end.

◆◇◆◇◆◇

“Hmm, it’s been quite a while since I’ve been here.”

After such a long absence, I finally returned to my private room in the guild house. Even though it had only been a few days, I felt a strange sense of relief. It felt exactly like returning home from a long trip.

Leaving my room, I headed towards the living room. There, I found the silhouettes of four people.

“Oh, Isam-san! Welcome back!”

“Welcome hooome!”

“Good job on the event~~ssu!”

Iris, Ruby, and Shio, the trio of girls in our guild, greeted me as soon as they saw me. It was somewhat surreal to be greeted this way, even though I didn’t enter through a door.

“Ah, so you guys are back too. Is that the person you mentioned?”

“Yes, that’s right. This is Hanna-san.”

Iris introduced me to a woman with an avatar featuring long black hair and sharp eyes. She was a cool and elegant beauty. She must be the player they met in the Aquaria Islands.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Kanna.”

Kanna stood up from her chair, bowed politely, and greeted me. She seemed to be a polite woman.

“Nice to meet you as well. I am Isam, the guild leader. I have heard you were quite skilled.”

“Skilled… It’s really only with my husband that I manage to be decent.”

Decent? They’re a duo capable of winning martial tournaments, aren’t they? She is quite the humble one.

“Then, might your husband not be present here? I had hoped to extend my greetings…”

“He’s playing with Karl right now. And please, no need for formalities with us. We’re all part of the same guild now.”

“Hmm… alright. Is this better?”

Hanna nodded with a smile.

“So Isam-san! Did you notice anything?”

“Uh…?”

Notice anything? What is she talking about…oh!

“Shio, have you evolved?”

Indeed, I hadn’t noticed at first since she was sitting as usual, but Shio’s appearance had drastically changed. She now stood as tall as an adult male, similar to the other Birdians I had seen at Birdy Perch. Her feathers had a brownish color, her beak was sharp, and her eyes were large and intense, clearly indicating that she belonged to the bird of prey-like Birdians.

“Is your model… based on a hawk?”

“Spot on~~ssu! I’ve been leveling up like crazy since I cleared the trial~~ssu. My current race is a Birdian Sharpshooter, and I’m at level 42~~ssu!”

“A Birdian Sharpshooter…?”

While I had been busy with various things in the event, Shio had impressively completed the “Trial of the Azure Moon”. She then dedicated herself to leveling up to catch up with the first batch of players. Still, I wonder what kind of recklessness she must have gone through to raise her level to over 40 at once… I am sure that a tremendous number of monsters must have been sacrificed for that.

Also, what exactly does a Birdian Sharpshooter race entail? Since she was originally skilled with a bow, it might have something to do with enhancements in long-range sniping.

“Does this mean your bow is more accurate now?”

“It’s a bit different~~ssu. The Birdian Sharpshooter actually has a correction applied to the accuracy of ranged weapons~~ssu.”

“Ranged weapons… I see. Does that include the firearms that Iris repaired?”

“Exactly~~ssu. I’m more accustomed to using guns, but bows are quieter and have higher single-shot power~~ssu, so I’ve been alternating between them, and that’s how things unfolded until now~~ssu!”

I see. Guns and bows each had their own advantages. Surprisingly, bows offered greater single-shot firepower. Perhaps this was a deliberate design to allow for specialization in weaponry? Either way, it seemed neither option would make the other useless.

“Oh, right. Hanna-san, we need to discuss that matter,” Ruby said.

“Yes, indeed. Isam-san, I have a favor to ask of you.”

“A favor?”

Was she about to request something? I was prepared to help as much as I could, but I wonder what she could possibly ask for.

“Yes. Could you turn me into an undead?”

“…Huuuuh?”

Her request was so out of place that I couldn’t help but blurt out a bewildered response.

You keep on alternating between Hanna and Kanna, didnt you decide last time on Kanna?

An undead huh, she will be forced to reduce her light weakness before going out on adventures in that case, and the restriction on some cities as well.. Then again, it could be fun to play as a monster, and she is the only human in the guild so far. ^^”

Thank you for the chapter and the treat! (^_^)/
