Chapter 257: Delicious

Liu Xueyao moved with effortless grace, tiny ice crystals materializing in the air around her. With a flicker, her slender, elegant figure appeared beside Chu Feng.

Her icy, beautiful eyes turned toward Wei Mingxuan, instantly making him feel as though he had been plunged into an ice cellar.

Protection. Ever since Chu Feng had suddenly found himself in danger, there had always been someone keeping watch over him.

However, Chu Feng felt that bringing the Saintess into the academy with him would inevitably cause a huge commotion, so he had asked her to remain hidden nearby.

Wei Mingxuan frowned deeply as he looked at the woman who had suddenly appeared, then at the silver token hanging from her waist. Sixth rank. He knew perfectly well that there was absolutely no advantage to be gained from confronting her.

Wei Mingxuan glanced at Chu Feng and sneered. “So that’s how it is. I was wondering how a third-rank brat like you managed to make it this far. Turns out this is why. I have to admit, I’m rather envious of your luck with women. There probably isn’t a second person in the entire Sword Dao Department who can compare.”

Liu Xueyao would never allow anyone to disrespect her husband. A cold gleam surged within her emotionless eyes as she lightly extended a fair, slender hand, icy power curling around her fingertips.

Just then, Chu Feng fixed his gaze on the ill-intentioned Wei Mingxuan. Although he still had no idea how he had managed to offend the man, since the other party had come all the way here to provoke him, it was only right that he return the favor.

He said softly, “Senior Brother, whether someone is a mule or a horse, you’ll only know once you take them out for a run. Let’s settle this ourselves during the third round.”

“I just hope that when the time comes, a certain someone isn’t merely putting on a brave face and barking like a dog, only to lose his nerve when it’s actually time to bite.”

Chu Feng’s almost vicious words made Wei Mingxuan’s face twitch violently. He drew a deep breath, suppressing the fury in his heart, and laughed angrily. “Good, good! What arrogance! I just wonder whether your strength can live up to that mouth of yours.”

“As for that, Senior Brother, you’ll have to test it yourself and see whether I really have the strength to back it up.”

Chu Feng smiled faintly, a trace of coldness flashing through his dark eyes. With his current strength, he indeed had the confidence to say such things.

Even a clay figurine had a temper. Just because the tiger hadn’t shown its claws, did they really think he was some sickly cat?

“Heh! I certainly hope so!”

Wei Mingxuan sneered, then turned and left.

The tense, confrontational atmosphere between the two of them had left everyone around them stunned. They couldn’t figure it out either. The two had never even met before, much less had any grudges against each other. Yet Wei Mingxuan had suddenly come looking for trouble today. Could it be that his temper had finally gotten so bad that it had fried his brain?

No matter how much they thought about it, no one could make sense of the situation.

Liu Xueyao’s gaze sharpened as true qi gathered in her palm, ready to strike.

Just then, Chu Feng reached out to stop the Saintess and shook his head at her.

“Hmm?” Liu Xueyao looked at him in confusion.

“Saintess, leave this matter to me. I can’t always rely on you and the others to stand up for me. I’ve got some strength of my own now, too.”

Chu Feng grinned.

That tone, that expression… Liu Xueyao’s eyes suddenly grew distant. For a moment, she seemed to see the shadow of her husband from his previous life…the Sword Immortal who had once dominated the entire cultivation world.

“Mhmm!”

A faint smile appeared on Liu Xueyao’s icy face, and the chill surrounding her instantly dissipated. She turned her hand over and clasped Chu Feng’s hand in hers.

The two then left together, the surrounding crowd automatically parting to make way for them.

What had happened today would probably spread throughout the entire Sword Dao Academy.

Wei Mingxuan walked away alone. Everyone he passed hurriedly avoided him, afraid that getting too close might provoke him. After all, he was the sort of mad dog who would bite anyone.

“Heh heh, very good. That brat has successfully stirred up the fire inside me!”

Ever since Wei Mingxuan first made a name for himself, he had always behaved no differently from a street thug…arrogant, overbearing, and utterly unreasonable.

Just as he returned to his cave dwelling, a streak of sword qi came hurtling toward him from the distance, carrying a biting chill and sending ripples through the surrounding space.

Wei Mingxuan’s expression tightened, and he hurriedly moved to block it.

However, the power of the sword qi far surpassed his own. In an instant, his sleeve was torn apart and blood sprayed from his arm.

“Senior Brother, spare me!”

Wei Mingxuan cried out in alarm.

“Hmph!”

A cold snort rang out, and a figure in yellow immediately shot forward. Even he had to expend considerable effort to block the sword qi, leaving him looking somewhat disheveled.

The yellow-robed man’s expression darkened as he said coldly, “I told you to find that brat and confirm the target. How did you manage to provoke a sixth-rank cultivator!?”

Wei Mingxuan protested aggrievedly, “Senior Brother, I didn’t provoke any sixth-rank cultivator! I only went to meet that brat like you told me to.”

The yellow-robed man knew exactly what kind of person Wei Mingxuan was. Whenever he went out, it was as though he couldn’t rest until he had offended everyone he came across. He flicked his sleeve and said, “Forget it, forget it. As long as you properly complete the task I gave you, the reward will remain useful to you even after you break through to the sixth rank…or even the seventh.”

“I understand. But Senior Brother, where did you get this assignment from? As far as I know, there are only a handful of people in the entire Hundred Clans Academy capable of offering such a generous reward.”

Wei Mingxuan asked curiously. The reward was simply too lavish not to arouse suspicion.

“Don’t ask about things you shouldn’t. All you need to know is that once this is done, the two of us will rise to great heights!”

The yellow-robed man’s eyes were filled with barely restrained excitement.

Chu Feng stared at the large table laden with sumptuous dishes and felt his stomach begin to rumble.

Wiping away the drool that was nearly spilling from the corner of his mouth, Chu Feng marveled at how quickly the Saintess’s cooking skills had improved. It was astonishingly fast.

“Husband, it won’t taste as good once it gets cold.”

Liu Xueyao reminded him.

“Then don’t mind if I dig in.”

Chu Feng picked up his chopsticks, lifted a piece of jade dumpling, and popped it into his mouth. The lingering flavor was so delicious that he couldn’t help praising it. “As expected of the Saintess… It’s so good…”

After eating for a while, he noticed out of the corner of his eye that the beautiful woman had been staring at him the entire time. “Saintess, you should eat with me. Eating all by myself feels a little dull.”

There was another reason as well. Having the Saintess watch him eat somehow made Chu Feng feel like a pet happily munching away on food its owner had personally fed it.

With that, Chu Feng took another set of tableware from his storage pouch.

Since it was her husband’s request, Liu Xueyao naturally did not refuse.

Compared to Chu Feng’s somewhat sloppy eating, her table manners were far more pleasing to the eye. She gracefully savored the dishes she had prepared with her own hands.

Holding a spoon, Liu Xueyao sampled one of the soups, her soft, luscious red lips parting and closing with an alluring charm.

After swallowing a mouthful and savoring its delicious flavor, a satisfied look appeared on her face. It seemed the husband-keeping secret manual her master had given her was indeed right.

Chu Feng found it strange how the Saintess’s cooking skills had improved at a rocket-like pace and curiously asked, “Saintess, how did you make this? It’s ridiculously delicious.”

His cheeks were puffed out, bulging up and down as he chewed, with crumbs of food clinging to the corners of his mouth.

Liu Xueyao took a handkerchief from her sleeve and thoughtfully wiped the corners of her young husband’s mouth. Then she poured him a cup of fragrant tea. “I merely read a few books.”

Inside the room, on the bed.

Chu Feng lay on the bed. After eating and drinking his fill, he had grown somewhat sleepy. He was resting with his eyes closed when he suddenly sensed movement beside him.

Before he could open his eyes, he heard a faint sound.

Rustle, rustle—

The sound of clothes being removed.

“!!??”

Chu Feng immediately opened his eyes. Before he could sit up, the thin blanket covering him was lifted, and a soft, warm, fragrant body slipped underneath and wrapped itself around him.

Judging by the delicate fragrance lingering at the tip of his nose, it was the Saintess.

“Saintess, what are you…”

The familiar, cool voice of the mature beauty sounded beside his ear.

“Husband, sleep.”

“……”

He couldn’t find a single thing wrong with that statement.

Just as he shifted slightly, his raised hand brushed against something smooth, soft, and springy.

“Mmm~”

The aloof beauty’s face instantly flushed crimson, making her look exceptionally lovely.

Now Chu Feng didn’t dare move recklessly anymore.

But while he had stopped moving, it was Liu Xueyao’s turn to start fidgeting.

Rub, rub~
