Chapter 56: M-Me?

[With the help of the flame in Miss Eleanor’s hand, Simon noticed that the fair skin visible beside her face covering had turned bright red.]

Elisa couldn’t bear to watch and covered her eyes.

Poor Eleanor. Having her identity exposed by the male servant right to her face… how awkward and humiliating must that be?!

I know exactly how that feels. Before, when I thought my disguise had been exposed, I was so embarrassed that I wanted to grab my male servant and erase his memories.

That male servant is pretty wicked too! I refuse to believe his emotional intelligence is that low. He exposed Eleanor on purpose!

Perhaps exposing Eleanor’s identity gave him the advantage.

Eleanor came here tonight to poach my servant. He didn’t want to leave, nor did he want to be coerced by some masked stranger, so he directly called Eleanor by name and completely derailed whatever she had planned.

And Eleanor, seriously! Of all the people you could try to poach, you chose my male servant! I’m his mistress, and even I get driven crazy by him every day, let alone an outsider like you.

If you want to cultivate a companion, wouldn’t it be much easier to simply ask your family for one?

Still, I can understand. A pet your family gives you just can’t compare to one you picked up off the street yourself.

Hehe. There’s an old saying in the Archipelago that roughly means: If you want to bring a man and woman together, anything works better than a banquet.

People always prefer something they discover themselves over something handed to them by others.

Then Elisa had another thought. My male servant was still too merciful. If it were me, hehehe, I’d first accept Eleanor as my teacher, then expose her identity and call her “Respected Teacher Eleanor”. The look on her face would definitely be even more spectacular than it is now.

Simon had also wanted to wait until after accepting her as his teacher before exposing her. Aside from making things more entertaining, he would also get a free “Spell Array Disc” out of it.

But Eleanor wasn’t Elisa. Her years in the Archipelago had thickened Elisa’s skin considerably. Even if Simon stripped away every last one of Elisa’s disguises, she could simply endure the embarrassment for a while before pretending nothing had happened.

Eleanor couldn’t do that. This chuunibyou young lady was extremely thin-skinned. If Simon actually did such a thing, she would flee in mortification, pack her bags before dawn, and set off on a spur-of-the-moment journey.

Incidentally, if it were Miss Mabel, she would tap herself on the head in mild frustration and say, “Oops, you found me out.”

Even though Simon had already gone easy on her, Eleanor was still terribly embarrassed, and it took her quite a while to regain her composure.

[Pulling down the cloth covering her face, Eleanor asked Simon how he had recognized her.]

[Simon told her it was because of her beautiful eyes. Those obsidian-black irises were rare and precious.]

Liar! Miss Elisa sternly condemned him.

Before Eleanor conjured that flame, you couldn’t even see her eyes clearly! What beautiful irises? It was her distinctive figure!

Of course, he couldn’t exactly say he had recognized her by her figure. If he did… Hah, perhaps I’d have to start gathering up my male servant’s ashes.

Elisa suddenly realized something else. No wonder her male servant had pretended not to recognize Eleanor at first and only exposed her now. So he had been waiting until he had a reasonable excuse for recognizing her.

[Eleanor believed Simon’s explanation. Skipping over what had happened earlier, she asked whether Simon wanted to become a Transcendent and work for her. She would ask Elisa to let her have Simon.]

Elisa immediately grew nervous.

[Simon recalled his teacher’s majestic breasts and rejected Miss Eleanor. He told Eleanor that he was already a Transcendent.]

Elisa breathed a sigh of relief.

Reading through the log once more, she had mixed feelings.

Normally, shouldn’t you be remembering how carefully I taught you? Why are you remembering my chest instead?!

Elisa covered her forehead. She suspected that what her male servant had obtained wasn’t the [Truth] ritual at all, but the [Lust] ritual.

Or perhaps breasts were his truth?

[Eleanor found it hard to believe. She said that since Simon was a Transcendent, why was he working as Elisa’s male servant? She extended an olive branch to Simon, promising him an annual salary of 100 pounds, with a 10% raise every year.]

That’s going too far!

How dare you try to corrupt my male servant with money!

[Simon rejected Eleanor. Eleanor demanded a reason.]

That really was a difficult reason to explain, Elisa thought.

I told my male servant before not to reveal any information about me unless absolutely necessary. He’ll have no choice but to make something up.

[Simon sighed softly and told Eleanor that Miss Elisa was the most beautiful, intelligent, gentle, and charming lady he had ever met. As he spoke, his voice was low and unhurried, his gaze serene, and his smile peaceful.]

[Eleanor was deeply moved.]

Elisa was utterly stunned.

If I didn’t know perfectly well what your attitude toward me is really like, I might’ve actually believed you!

Damn it, you’re using me as a shield again! You bastard!

[Simon and Miss Eleanor exchanged some information, allowing him to understand the reason behind Eleanor’s nighttime visit.]

[A month ago, Miss Eleanor’s father discovered his daughter’s investigation. He ordered her to stop and told her that the culprit had already been brought to justice and the case was closed.]

[Miss Eleanor had never seen her father look so serious before and felt that something had to be amiss. She decided to pretend to be obedient and divert her father’s attention while secretly recruiting companions to continue the investigation. Simon was the companion she had chosen.]

Elisa smiled. What did she mean by “pretending to be obedient to divert her father’s attention while recruiting companions to investigate”? She simply didn’t dare defy her family, yet didn’t want to give up either.

She raised her hand and examined the two [Finger Bones] held between her fingertips. Eleanor’s father must hold a high-ranking position and know about the [Finger Bones]. He simply didn’t want his daughter getting involved.

This whole affair was becoming more and more complicated. The East District gangs, the military’s upper ranks, the Fourth Princess… all of them were connected to the [Finger Bones].

But none of that had anything to do with me. I’m not interested in the [Finger Bones]. Maybe I can trade them for something useful.

I’ll hold on to them for now. I’ll see what this whole affair is really about and what those people actually intend to do with the [Finger Bones], then decide whether to keep them hidden or sell them.

Elisa continued reading the log, hoping her male servant would cooperate with Eleanor and uncover more information.

[Simon rejected Eleanor’s proposal. An elder had told him that the matter was already over and there was no need to continue investigating.]

Elisa covered her face.

I was the one who said that, because the East District affair was too troublesome. Back then, I had no idea this matter was so important. Even the Fourth Princess is searching for the [Finger Bones]!

Elisa regretted it now.

[Eleanor told Simon that her elder had said this matter might be connected to the treasures of the old dynasty.]

[Judging from Eleanor’s tone, Simon concluded that this was merely baseless speculation and rejected the temptation.]

[Simon thought that if he handed the Finger Bones over to Eleanor’s “elder”, he might be able to learn more.]

The word “elder” was deliberately emphasized. Hehe. Just like my male servant, the “elder” Eleanor mentioned must also be her teacher in mysticism, Elisa thought.

I wonder who her teacher is, what rank they are, and what field they specialize in.

That teacher probably isn’t affiliated with the authorities. Otherwise, there would be no need to teach Eleanor in secret.

That teacher probably doesn’t belong to any organization either, at least not one in the royal capital. Otherwise, Eleanor wouldn’t need to recruit my male servant as an assistant.

Besides, at least when it comes to this incident, Eleanor’s teacher is nowhere near as capable as I am. I’ve already obtained two [Finger Bones], while Eleanor’s teacher doesn’t even know the [Finger Bones] exist!

I win!

Miss Elisa was in an excellent mood.

She continued secretly spying on her male servant and Eleanor.

[Their alliance having fallen through, Eleanor was somewhat disappointed. She then proposed that she and Simon exchange information, and Simon agreed.]

[Before leaving, she asked him about the red-eyes and blue-eyes puzzle. Simon said he didn’t know the answer.]

Why are you asking too?!

Elisa saw right through them. Whether it was Eleanor or Ophelia, they both wanted to cheat! They wanted to get the answer from someone else and then pretend they had worked it out themselves!

Unfortunately for them, the only one allowed to cheat is me, Miss Elisa!
